Andrew Douglas Gilfillan (born 21 August 1959) is a South African former first-class cricketer.
Gilfillan was born at Johannesburg in August 1959. He later studied in England at Worcester College at the University of Oxford. [1] While studying at Oxford,he played first-class cricket for Oxford University in 1982,making three appearances against Kent,Gloucestershire and Hampshire. [2] He scored 40 runs in his three matches,with a high score of 33, [3] while with his leg break bowling he took 2 wickets, [4] with both coming against Kent with Gilfillan taking the wickets of Neil Taylor and Chris Cowdrey. [5]
James Moffat Allan was a Scottish cricketer. He was an all-rounder who bowled slow left-arm orthodox and batted right-handed and was described by his Wisden obituary as "the best all-rounder Scotland ever produced".
Jonathan Richard Ayling is an English former first-class cricketer and cricket coach. He played first-class and List A one-day cricket for Hampshire as an all-rounder between 1987 and 1993,though ultimately his career came to a premature end through injury. Following his retirement,he was assistant and bowling coach at Hampshire until 2012.
Dennis Oliver Baldry is an English former first-class cricketer who played as an all-rounder for both Middlesex and Hampshire. Debuting in first-class cricket for Middlesex in 1953,he played irregularly for the county until 1958. He moved to Hampshire in 1959,and was a member of their 1961 County Championship winning team. He played for Hampshire in first-class cricket until 1962,and played in their inaugural List A one-day match in the 1963 Gillette Cup. A right-handed batsman and right-arm off break bowler,he score over 4,600 runs in 139 first-class matches,and took 83 wickets.
Alexander Campbell Shirreff,known as Alan Shirreff,was an English pilot who served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War,and after the war he continued his military service with the Royal Air Force. Shirreff was also an amateur cricketer who played first-class cricket either side of the war,mostly for the Combined Services cricket team and Kent. He played as an all-rounder in nearly 120 matches,taking over 300 wickets with his medium pace deliveries.
Arthur William Ridley was an English first-class cricketer. An all-rounder,he was considered one of the finest and last proponents of underam 'lob' bowling. His first-class career began with Oxford University while he was a student at Christ Church,Oxford. He would play for a number of teams between 1872 and 1885,including Hampshire,the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and Middlesex. In 96 first-class appaearances he scored 3,150 runs as a batsman,while with his lob bowling he took 224 wickets,claiming nineteen five wicket hauls. Outside of cricket,Ridley was a brewery director;this commitment had the effect of restricting his availability to play first-class cricket with greater regularity.
