Andrew Kam-hung Ng is a Canadian physicist who is a professor emeritus in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies.
Ng studied mathematics and physics at the University of Hong Kong and pursued graduate study in plasma physics at the University of Western Ontario, [1] completing his doctoral thesis,An Investigation Of Anomalous Scattering Of Laser Radiation By A Theta-pinch Plasma,in 1977. [2]
Ng was a postdoctoral researcher at University of Alberta prior to joining the University of British Columbia faculty in 1980. [1] He was elected a fellow of the American Physical Society in 1998,"[f]or original contributions to the understanding of optical probing of shock waves and two-temperature non-equilibrium shock states, and for the use of laser-driven shocks in advancing research on high density matter." [3] Upon retirement from the University of British Columbia,Ng was granted emeritus status. [4]
Charles J. Joachain is a Belgian physicist.
Peter Andrew Sturrock is a British scientist. An emeritus professor of applied physics at Stanford University, much of Sturrock's career has been devoted to astrophysics, plasma physics, and solar physics, but Sturrock is interested in other fields, including ufology, scientific inference, the history of science, and the philosophy of science. Sturrock has been awarded many prizes and honors, and has written or co-authored many scientific papers and textbooks.
A pinch is the compression of an electrically conducting filament by magnetic forces,or a device that does such. The conductor is usually a plasma, but could also be a solid or liquid metal. Pinches were the first type of device used for experiments in controlled nuclear fusion power.
Peter Westervelt was an American physicist, noted for his work in nonlinear acoustics, and Professor Emeritus of Physics at Brown University.
Ghulam Murtaza,SI,FPAS,is a Pakistani theoretical physicist with a specialization in the physics of ionized plasmas, and is an Emeritus Professor of physics at the Government College University in Lahore. Murtaza's work is recognizable in plasma physics and controlled nuclear fusion processes to provide a better understanding of energy propagated by the main-sequence star, the Sun.
Francis F. Chen is a Chinese-born American plasma physicist.
George H. Miley is a professor emeritus of physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. Miley is a Guggenheim Fellow and Fellow of the American Nuclear Society, the American Physical Society and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He was Senior NATO Fellow from 1994 to 1995,received the Edward Teller Medal in 1995,the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Science Award in Fusion Technology in 2003 and the Radiation Science and Technology Award in 2004. He holds several patents.
George Bekefi was a plasma physicist,a professor at MIT,and an inventor.
Elias Burstein was an American experimental condensed matter physicist whose active career in science spanned seven decades. He is known for his pioneering fundamental research in the optical physics of solids;for writing and editing hundreds of articles and other publications;for bringing together scientists from around the world in international meetings, conferences, and symposia;and for training and mentoring dozens of younger physicists.
Miklos Porkolab(born March 24,1939) is a Hungarian-American physicist specializing in plasma physics.
Avraham (Avi) Gover is an Israeli professor of Electrical Engineering in the Physical Electronics Department of the Engineering Faculty at Tel Aviv University, specializing in Quantum Electronics and FEL Physics. Gover is also the head of the Israeli Center for Radiation Sources and Applications in Ariel. In 2005,he was awarded the international FEL prize "in recognition for his outstanding contributions to Free Electron Laser science and technology".
Clifford Michael Surko is an American physicist, whose works involve plasma physics, atomic physics, nonlinear dynamics and solid state physics. Together with his colleagues,he developed techniques for laser scattering at small angles to study waves and turbulence in tokamak plasmas and invented a positron trap that was used in experiments worldwide to study antimatter. Surko also developed other techniques for studying positron plasmas and examined atomic and plasma physics with positrons.
Kunioki Mima is a Japanese plasma physicist. He is known for his contributions to the theory of turbulent transport in plasmas, and in particular the derivation of the Hasegawa–Mima equation in 1977,which won him the 2011 Hannes Alfvén Prize.
Thomas W. L. "Tom" Sanford is an American plasma physicist who developed a multi-wire array for use in a pulsed Z-pinch plasma system which resulted in a breakthrough for inertial confinement fusion (ICF) research. In 2005,he was awarded the Hannes Alfvén Prize with Malcolm Haines and Valentin Smirnov for his contributions to the field.
Richard R. Freeman is an American physicist, academic and researcher. He is an affiliated professor of physics at the University of Washington,a distinguished emeritus professor of mathematical and physical science at Ohio State University, and an emeritus Edward Teller Professor of Applied Science at University of California,Davis.
