Andrew Torrens Roose (born 18 June 1968) is a former New Zealand professional rugby player.

Biography

Roose debuted for Otago in 1988 as a hooker. After four seasons he switched to play for Counties in 1992 and scored his first NPC try that year. He was noted as being a more mobile player than would normally be expected of a hooker. [1]

In 1996 he was signed to play for the Blues in the inaugural Super 12 season. [2] He spent 16 games on the bench without playing a match until March 1997 when he played the final 5 minutes in a match against the Queensland Reds. [3] After Blues captain Sean Fitzpatrick was injured he saw more regular appearances afterwards. [4]

In April 1999 he made his debut for the Chiefs, replacing the injured John Akurangi, who was out with an infected ear. [5]

In June 1999 suffered a neck injury in club training, knocking his head on a scrum machine pad and then lost feeling in an arm. His career was in doubt and ruled out for the season. [6] He was not named in the Counties squad for the 1999 NPC and retired. [7]

Terry Newton was an English professional rugby league footballer who played as a hooker. He began his professional career with Leeds Rhinos in 1996, before joining his hometown club Wigan Warriors in 2000. He later also played for Bradford Bulls and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats. During his career, he won two Challenge Cup medals and was a runner-up in four Super League Grand Finals. He was one of a handful of players to feature in each of the first 15 seasons of the Super League. At international level, he was capped 15 times by Great Britain between 1998 and 2007, and also represented England and Lancashire.

Mark Darren "Sharky" Robinson is a New Zealand former rugby union and rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s. He played international rugby union for the All Blacks between 1997 and 2001. He played provincial rugby in New Zealand for North Harbour and Super 12 rugby for the Waikato Chiefs and then the Auckland Blues. He briefly played rugby league for the New Zealand Warriors before moving overseas to play with Northampton and then London Wasps, both in England. He retired from professional rugby in 2010.

An Australian Kangaroos and Queensland Maroons representative, he played in the Canberra Raiders' 1st, 2nd and 3rd NSWRL grand final victories.

Wayne Bartrim, is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s. He was selected to represent Australia and Queensland during his career, which he spent playing for the Gold Coast Seagulls, St. George Dragons and the St. George Illawarra Dragons in Australia and the Castleford Tigers in England. Bartrim primarily played his club career as a lock, but played his representative career as a hooker.

Lee Stensness is a former New Zealand rugby union footballer who played for Manawatu, Auckland, the Blues and the All Blacks. He made his debut for the All Blacks in 1993.

Tom Willis is a former New Zealand international rugby union player who played in the hooker position.

Mark Powell Robinson is a former New Zealand rugby union footballer. He played nine Test matches for the All Blacks between 2000 and 2002. Playing mainly at centre, Robinson played provincial rugby for Taranaki, Wellington and later Canterbury. In Super 12 rugby he played for the Crusaders, with whom he won two titles: in 2000 and 2002. It was while playing with the Crusaders that he played his only international rugby, two Tests in 2000 and seven in 2002.
