André Filipe Bernardes Santos (born 2 March 1989) is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for C.F. Os Belenenses.
Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played with a spherical ball between two teams of eleven players. It is played by 250 million players in over 200 countries and dependencies, making it the world's most popular sport. The game is played on a rectangular field called a pitch with a goal at each end. The object of the game is to score by moving the ball beyond the goal line into the opposing goal.
Clube de Futebol Os Belenenses, commonly known as Belenenses, is a Portuguese sports club best known for its football team. Founded in 1919, it is one of the oldest Portuguese sports clubs. It is based in the 25,000-seat Estádio do Restelo in the Belém parish of Lisbon, hence the club name, which translates as "The ones from Belém". Among its fanbase, the club is commonly nicknamed O Belém, in reference to the neighborhood; Os Pastéis, in reference to a traditional Portuguese pastry originated in the parish; Azuis (Blues) or Azuis do Restelo, in reference to the club's color and its home ground; and A Cruz de Cristo, for its emblem, or also "Os Rapazes da Praia", a reference to the zone of Belém in the earlier 20 Century.
Born in Sobreiro Curvo, Torres Vedras, Santos joined Sporting Clube de Portugal's youth system at the age of 11. He made his senior debuts while on loan, playing with C.D. Fátima in the third division [1] and U.D. Leiria; [2] in the 2009–10 season, with the latter, he first appeared in the Primeira Liga, playing 30 complete games to help the club finish in ninth place and being the first Portuguese player to achieve the feat in the league in the process. Centro Desportivo de Fátima, simply known as Fátima, is a Portuguese football club based in Fátima, in the municipality of Ourém. Founded in 1966, it currently plays in the Championship of Portugal, holding home matches at Estádio Papa Francisco, with a capacity of 1,545 spectators.
The Segunda Divisão Portuguesa was a football league situated at the third level of the Portuguese football league system. The division had previously been the second level of the Portuguese pyramid but, with the creation of the Segunda Liga in 1990–91, it became the third level. The competition merged with the Portuguese Third Division at the end of the 2012–13 to form a new enlarged third level league, the Campeonato Nacional de Seniores.
Santos returned to the Lions for 2010–11, playing his first official match with the side on 5 August in a 2–1 home win against FC Nordsjælland in the UEFA Europa League. [4] He scored his first goal as a professional exactly four months later, helping the visiting team win it 3–1 at Portimonense SC, [5] and finished the campaign with 42 appearances all competitions comprised (two goals).
The 2010–11 Primeira Liga was the 77th season of the Primeira Liga, the top professional league for Portuguese association football clubs. It began on 15 August 2010 and ended on 14 May 2011. A total of 16 teams contested the league, 14 of which already took part in the previous season and two of which were promoted from the Liga de Honra. Benfica were the defending champions but finished runners-up to Porto, who won their 25th league title in the club's first-ever unbeaten season. Porto's forward Hulk was the top scorer with 23 goals.
The 2010–11 UEFA Europa League was the second season of the UEFA Europa League, Europe's secondary club football tournament organised by UEFA, and the 40th edition overall including its predecessor, the UEFA Cup. It began on 1 July 2010, with the first qualifying round matches, and concluded on 18 May 2011, with the final at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, between Porto and first-time finalists Braga. This was the first all-Portuguese final of a European competition and only the third time that two Portuguese teams faced each other in Europe, following Braga's elimination of Benfica in the semi-finals. Porto defeated Braga 1–0, with a goal from the competition's top goalscorer Radamel Falcao, and won their second title in the competition, after victory in the 2002–03 UEFA Cup.
Football Club Nordsjælland, commonly known as FC Nordsjælland, Nordsjælland or FCN, is a professional Danish football team from the North Zealand town of Farum. Founded as Farum Boldklub from the merger of the town's two football clubs Farum IK and Stavnsholt BK in 1991, the club changed its name to FC Nordsjælland in 2003.
On 25 August 2011, also in the Europa League and against the same Danish opponent, and with the same match result but now in the playoff round, Santos netted to eventually help Sporting reach the group stage as that was also the aggregate score. [6] However, he eventually lost his importance in the squad under new manager Domingos Paciência.
The 2011–12 UEFA Europa League was the third season of the UEFA Europa League, Europe's secondary club football tournament organised by UEFA, and the 41st edition overall including its predecessor, the UEFA Cup. It began on 30 June 2011 with the first legs of the first qualifying round, and ended on 9 May 2012 with the final held at Arena Națională in Bucharest, Romania. As part of a trial that started in the 2009–10 UEFA Europa League, two extra officials – one on each goal line – were used in all matches of the competition from the group stage.

In June 2012 Santos moved, alongside a host of compatriots – including Sporting teammate Diogo Salomão – to Deportivo de La Coruña from Spain, in a season-long loan. [7] He made his La Liga debut on 1 September by coming on as a late substitute in a 1–1 home draw to Getafe CF, [8] but featured sparingly overall and the Galicians were also relegated.

The 2012–13 La Liga season was the 82nd since its establishment. The campaign began on 18 August 2012, and ended on 1 June 2013. Barcelona won the league for a 22nd time, after leading the league the entire season and amassing 100 points. As in previous years, Nike provided the official ball for all matches, with a new Nike Maxim Liga BBVA model to be used throughout the season for all matches.
On 8 August 2014, after one season back in his homeland with Vitória de Guimarães, Santos moved teams and countries again, joining Balıkesirspor in the Süper Lig. [9] [10]

Balıkesirspor is a multisports club from Balıkesir, Turkey. Established in 1966, the football team played in the Süper Lig after achieving promotion having finished as runners-up of the TFF First League in 2013–14. The team's previous promotion was 40 years before that. Their stadium, the all-seater Balıkesir Atatürk Stadı, has a capacity of 15,800.
Santos earned 30 caps for Portugal at youth level, scoring three times. He made his debut for the full side on 29 March 2011, replacing Rúben Micael for the last 15 minutes of a 2–0 friendly win over Finland in Aveiro. [11]
