Andy Burgin (born 6 March 1947) is an English former professional footballer who played as a full back, making over 300 career appearances.
Born in Sheffield, Burgin played for Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United, Detroit Cougars, Halifax Town and Blackburn Rovers. [1] [2] [3]
Sheffield Wednesday Football Club is a professional association football club based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, that will compete in the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football, following promotion from the 2022–23 EFL League One. Formed in 1867 as an offshoot of The Wednesday Cricket Club, they were known as The Wednesday Football Club until 1929.
Arthur Wharton is widely considered to be the first black professional footballer in the world. Though not the first black player outright – the amateurs Robert Walker, of Queen's Park, and Scotland international player, Andrew Watson, predate him – Wharton may have been the first black professional and the first to play in the Football League.
Christopher Marsden is an English former footballer who played in the Football League and Premier League for Sheffield United, Huddersfield Town, Coventry City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Notts County, Stockport County, Birmingham City, Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday, and in the Korean K-League for Busan I'Park. He led Southampton to the 2003 FA Cup Final, which they lost 1–0 to Arsenal.
Albert Quixall was an English professional footballer who played as an inside-forward. He joined Sheffield Wednesday as a youth and debuted in their professional side in 1951. He played almost 250 league games for Wednesday and became known as the "Golden Boy", also being capped five times for the England national team. Quixall joined Manchester United in 1958 for a record transfer fee, a signing made by Matt Busby to rebuild his team following the Munich air disaster. Quixall played 184 games for United and was regarded by Bobby Charlton as key to many of his goals in this era. He ended his football career at Oldham Athletic and Stockport County. In retirement he lived in Greater Manchester and ran a scrap metal firm.
