Andrew Ellis (born 21 February 1984) is a New Zealand rugby union player who plays the position of scrum-half for Rugby New York in Major League Rugby (MLR).

Career

In 2005 Ellis played in the New Zealand under-21 side.^[3] His Super 14 rookie year saw him oust All Black Kevin Senio from the Crusaders starting line-up. Ellis missed the 2006 Super 14 Final after sustaining a knee injury in the semi-final against the Bulls.^[4]^[5]

Although injury meant Ellis was unavailable for the 2006 All Blacks tests against Ireland and Argentina,^[6] he was later named to make his All Black debut against England at Twickenham.^[7] For the 2007 Rugby World Cup Ellis was selected ahead of Wellington halfback Piri Weepu.^{[ citation needed ]}

After the 2011 Rugby World Cup Ellis wasn't selected for the All Blacks Squad again until 2015 against Samoa in Apia, as Tawera Kerr-Barlow was out for the 2015 Super Rugby season and both Aaron Smith and TJ Perenara had played in the 2015 Super Rugby Final.

Personal life

Ellis attended Burnside High School from 1997 to 2001.^[8]^[9]

He is the eldest of three children to Sue and Greg Ellis. He has two siblings: Amanda and Simon.

Ellis married his wife, Emma Bainbridge, in 2007, after a seven-year relationship.^[10] In December 2009 they had a daughter, Scarlett and in 2014 a son named Arthur.

In 2018 Ellis helped launch Gravity satellite internet for rural New Zealanders with no traditional access to broadband.^[11]

Wyatt William Vogels Crockett is a former New Zealand rugby union player. He played at prop for the Crusaders in Super Rugby, Canterbury and Tasman in the National Provincial Championship, and the New Zealand national team, the All Blacks. Crockett has played in 202 Super Rugby fixtures and is the most-capped Super Rugby player of all time.

Kieran James Read is a New Zealand former rugby union player. He played as a number 8 and is a former captain of the New Zealand national team, the All Blacks.

Owen Thomas Franks is a New Zealand rugby player who currently plays for Crusaders in the Super Rugby competition. His usual position is tighthead prop.

Colin Richard Slade is a retired New Zealand professional rugby union player. He played primarily at first five-eighth, as well as all other backline positions on occasions. He was first selected for the All Blacks in 2009. He was a key member of the 2011 Rugby World Cup winning team. He was also included in the 2015 Rugby World Cup, but played in only one match against Namibia. He thus became one of only 20 players who have won the Rugby World Cup on multiple occasions.

Samuel Lawrence Whitelock is a New Zealand rugby union player who plays as a lock for Pau in the Top 14 competition.

Matthew Brendon Todd is a New Zealand rugby union coach and former player. He is currently an assistant coach for the Crusaders.

Thomas James Taylor is a New Zealand rugby union footballer. He played as a second five-eighth or first five-eighth for the Crusaders in Super Rugby. and Canterbury in the ITM Cup. He can also play fullback.

Luke Charles Whitelock is a New Zealand rugby union player who currently plays as a loose forward for Section Paloise (Pau) in France's Top 14 rugby competition.

Nepo Eti Laulala is a professional rugby union player who plays as a prop for Top 14 club Toulouse. Born in Samoa, he represented New Zealand at international level from 2015-2023, after qualifying on residency grounds.
