Anthony Frank Boric (born 27 December 1983 in Auckland) is a former rugby union footballer who represented the New Zealand in international rugby, and was a member of the 2011 Rugby World Cup winning All Blacks squad. He played as a lock.

Early and personal life

Boric is a second-generation New Zealander of Croatian descent. His grandfather, from whom Boric acquired his middle name, hailed from the Dalmatia region.^[1]^[2] He attended school at Rosmini College in Takapuna where he played first XV rugby.

Boric then studied Civil Engineering at the University of Auckland,^[3] and in 2008, the final year of his degree, received news of his inclusion in the All Black squad when he heard his name read out on the radio.^[3]

Rugby career

Boric started playing rugby on the wing, but as he grew rapidly in his teenage years he switched into the second row, and also played as a loose forward.^[2] In his early days at North Harbour and the Blues, Boric alternated between the role of lock and blindside flank before deciding to concentrate on the former position.^[2]

After making his first appearance as an All Black coming on as a substitute against England on 13 June 2008, Boric's first match as part of the starting line-up was against the Springboks in Dunedin, replacing the suspended Brad Thorn.^[2]

Boric scored his first Test try versus Scotland on 8 November 2008

Boric played his last Test match for All Black side during the winning 2011 Rugby World Cup campaign. He played 4 matches during the tournament, all of which were from the reserve bench.

Nowadays

Boric can now be seen commonly visiting the Golf Warehouse in Takapuna to consistenty hit balls over the back net. His large stature frightens the smaller Golf Warehouse employees such as Mr. Edward Henning and Mr. Alex Benton.

Christopher Bradley Smylie is a New Zealand rugby union player. He plays in the scrum-half position for Taranaki in the ITM Cup. He was born in Greater Auckland and attended Massey High School. In 2002 he made his professional debut for North Harbour against Auckland in the National Provincial Championship. Smylie then went south and had one season for the Highlanders in 2006, off the back of a hugely impressive debut season for Otago in 2005. The following year he played for the New Zealand Māori and in 2007 saw him play for the Hurricanes in Super Rugby, before debuting in 2009 for North Harbour in the Air New Zealand Cup.

Alexander James Williams is a retired New Zealand professional rugby union player who playled as a lock most notably for Super Rugby club Blues and the New Zealand national team.

Takapuna Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club based in Takapuna, New Zealand. The club was established in 1934 and is a member of the North Harbour Rugby Union. Until 1985, Takapuna was a member of the Auckland Rugby Football Union. The club is based at Onewa Domain, which was also home to North Harbour until 1997.
