Angela Guzman is a Colombian-American graphic designer best known for designing the original set of Apple Emoji as a design intern at Apple.

Early life and education

Guzman was born in Bogotá, Colombia and raised in Key Largo, Florida. [1] [2] She attended high school at Palmer Trinity School in Miami, Florida. [3] In 2006, Guzman graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Industrial Design, followed by a Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design in 2009. [4]

Career

Prior to completing her Masters of Fine Arts (MFA), Guzman was offered an internship position at Apple on the iPhone design team in 2008. [5] As an intern working with Raymond Sepulveda she was responsible for designing hundreds of the original emojis found on Apple devices, [6] [7] [8] starting with the engagement ring. [9] After receiving her MFA, Guzman returned to Apple and worked there for five years on projects including FaceTime, iMessage, and additional emoji sets. [10] [11] Subsequently, she has worked at Airbnb [10] and Google [10] where she managed experiences found on Google Assistant. [12] As of 2020 Guzman is the CEO and founder of Tijiko, a company centered on digital coaching. [13] [10] She also speaks on the standardization of user interfaces and user design. [14]

The Rhode Island School of Design is a private art and design school in Providence, Rhode Island. Krzysztof Lenk was Polish a graphic designer known as a specialist of visual communication, and a celebrated educator. During his career, he designed numerous magazines and publications, posters and book covers, diagrams and information maps; he was a professor of graphic design at Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, Poland, and later at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in the US; co-founder of Dynamic Diagrams, a firm specializing in information design, where he served as creative director between 1990 and 2001. Krzysztof Lenk shared his expertise through numerous lectures, workshops and conferences in many countries. He was an author and co-author of many books and articles. For his achievements he received an Honorary Doctorate Degree at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, Poland, his alma mater.

Anne Quito is a design reporter and architecture critic based in New York City. A former reporter at Quartz, she is also the founding director of Design Lab, the in-house design team for Family Health International (FHI). In 2017, Quito won the inaugural Steven Heller Prize for Cultural Commentary from the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA). In 2018, a story she co-authored received a silver medal in the Malofiej Infographic Awards.
