Angelo Tsirekas is an Australian politician. He is the longest-serving mayor of the City of Canada Bay in New South Wales,serving in the role from 2002 to 2016 and again from 2017 until he was sacked in 2023. [1]
Tsirekas became mayor of Canada Bay in 2002,and was re-elected in 2004,2008 and 2012. [1]
In 2016,he was announced as the Labor Party candidate for Reid at the federal election,and subsequently resigned as mayor. He was unsuccessful,finishing with a two-party-preferred vote of 45.31%. [2]
Tsirekas was returned as mayor at the 2017 election with 54.9% of the vote after preferences. [3]
On 19 October 2021,Tsirekas joined Our Local Community after not being re-endorsed by Labor for the December election. He was re-elected,this time with 57.5% of the vote after preferences. [4]
On 6 April 2022,it was announced Tsirekas was under investigation by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) over allegations he accepted benefits from developer I-Prosperity Group in return for "favourable planning decisions" dating back to 2012. [5] [6]
Tsirekas was suspended as mayor on 9 November 2023 after ICAC found he had engaged in corrupt conduct. It was found he received benefits including overseas flights and accommodation,worth at least $18,800,between 2015 and 2019. [7]
On 13 December 2023,Tsirekas was dismissed as mayor by Minister for Local Government Ron Hoenig. He was banned from civic office for a period of five years. [8]
Clover Margaret Moore is an Australian politician. She has been the Lord Mayor of the City of Sydney since 2004 and is currently the longest serving Lord Mayor of Sydney since the creation of the City of Sydney in 1842. She was an independent member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1988 to 2012,representing the electorates of Bligh (1988–2007) and Sydney (2007–2012). Her "recurrent motif" is described as "making Sydney more liveable for individuals and families". Moore is the first popularly elected female Lord Mayor of Sydney.
The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) is an integrity agency of the Government of New South Wales responsible for eliminating and investigating corrupt activities and enhancing the integrity of the state's public administration. The commission was established in 1989,pursuant to the Independent Commission Against Corruption Act,1988 (NSW),modeled after the ICAC in Hong Kong.
Morris Iemma is a former Australian politician who was the 40th Premier of New South Wales. He served from 3 August 2005 to 5 September 2008. From Sydney,Iemma attended the University of Sydney and the University of Technology,Sydney. A member of the Labor Party,he was first elected to the Parliament of New South Wales at the 1991 state election,having previously worked as a trade union official. From 1999,Iemma was a minister in the third and fourth ministries led by Bob Carr. He replaced Carr as premier and Leader of the New South Wales Labor Party in 2005,following Carr's resignation. Iemma led Labor to victory at the 2007 state election,albeit with a slightly reduced majority. He resigned as premier in 2008,after losing the support of caucus,and left parliament shortly after,triggering a by-election. He was replaced as premier by Nathan Rees.
Joseph Guerino Tripodi is a former Australian politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing the electorate of Fairfield for the Labor Party between 1995 and 2011. He was Minister for Finance,Infrastructure,Regulatory Reform,Ports and Waterways under former Premier Nathan Rees. He was a controversial figure during his time in politics,known as a factional boss,within the NSW Labor Right whose Terrigals sub-faction has twice dumped the sitting Labor Premier during 2007 and 2009. On 11 November 2010,he announced his decision to not contest the 2011 state election.
Ian Michael Macdonald is a former Australian politician and currently undergoing court proceedings and was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 1988 to 2010 representing the Labor Party. Macdonald,who joined the Labor Party in 1972,had his membership of the party terminated in 2013 for bringing the party into disrepute.

In September 2012 Paluzzano was sentenced to twelve months' home detention following a guilty plea for falsely claiming parliamentary allowances,as well as giving false and misleading evidence to an anti-corruption inquiry.
