Angie Vaughn (born November 4, 1976) is an American former track and field athlete who specialized in hurdles. She was the 100-meter hurdles winner at the 1998 Goodwill Games and a silver medalist in the event at the 1998 IAAF World Cup. Collegiately, she ran for the Texas Longhorns and was a three-time champion at NCAA-level, winning two hurdles title and one in the relay.
Born in Washington, D.C., she grew up in Maryland and attended Laurel High School. She took up track while there, at the behest of her mother, and became the high school state champion in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles in 1991. She placed third in the 100 m hurdles event at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships in 1993. She graduated from high school in 1994 and went on to attend the University of Texas on an athletic scholarship that same year, majoring in marketing. [1] [2]
At college she worked with coach Bev Kearney in the Texas Longhorns women's track team. In her first major event for the team, she was runner-up in the 55-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash at the indoor Southwest Conference championship. She was a semi-finalist at the NCAA Indoor Championships that season, then made the final the following year. In 1997 she was a double individual finalist at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, coming fourth in the 200 m and seventh in the 100 m hurdles. She ranked among the top ten Americans for those events that season, having set personal records of 23.11 seconds and 13.11 seconds, respectively. [1]
In her final year of college eligibility in 1998, Vaughn had her best performances. At the Big 12 Conference indoor meet, she won the 55 m hurdles, was runner-up over 200 m and also ranked fourth in the 55-meter dash. At the NCAA Indoor Championships she won the 55 m hurdles title in a personal record time of 7.41 seconds. In the outdoor college season she won the 100 m hurdles title at the Big 12 Championships, as well as runner-up finishes in both the 100-meter dash and 200 m. At the NCAA Outdoor Championships she won the individual 100 m hurdles title and the 4 × 100-meter relay title with the Texas Longhorn women. [1] [2] [3] [4]
Vaughn turned professional in the 1998 season and her first year was her most successful. She achieved a 100 m hurdles best of 12.63 seconds in July at the U.S. Open Track and Field and was runner-up at the 1998 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships behind Cheryl Dickey. [5] [6] There was no Olympics or World Championships in Athletics held that year, but she performed well in other international competitions. On the 1998 IAAF Golden League circuit she won at the Golden Gala in Rome, narrowly beating fellow American Melissa Morrison-Howard. [7] She was the gold medallist at the 1998 Goodwill Games and a silver medallist for the United States at the 1998 IAAF World Cup, finishing behind Glory Alozie of Nigeria. Despite her initial success she failed to improve the following year and did not finish the hurdles race at the 1999 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She competed on the international circuit until 2000, at which point she moved back to Washington, D.C. and began working as a law firm recruiter. [2]

Derrick Ralph Adkins is a former American track and field athlete who specialized in the 400-meter hurdles. He was an Olympic gold medalist in that event at the 1996 Summer Olympics and World Champion at the 1995 World Championships in Athletics. He was the fastest man in the world in the 1994 and 1996 seasons, and holds a personal record of 47.54 seconds. Adkins was a two-time national champion at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Jenny Margareta Kallur is a Swedish former track and field athlete who competed in hurdling and sprinting events. Her twin sister Susanna Kallur, who is four minutes younger, is also a 100 m hurdler. She was coached by Torbjörn Eriksson and Anders Henriksson.
John Bryan Bronson is an American 400-meter hurdler, who won the bronze medal at the 1997 World Championships in Athens. He also represented his country at the 1996 Summer Olympics. He won three consecutive titles at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships from 1996 to 1998.
Dawn C. Burrell is an American chef and retired long jumper. She won the gold medal at the 2001 IAAF World Indoor Championships and represented the United States at the 2000 Summer Olympics. In her culinary career, she was a semifinalist in 2020 for a James Beard Foundation Award. Burrell is the younger sister of former 100 m world record holder Leroy Burrell.
Brenda Taylor is an American track and field athlete who specialises in the 400 meter hurdles. She reached the final of the event at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She also competed at the 2001 World Championships in Athletics and won a medal at the 2003 IAAF World Indoor Championships in the 4×400-meter relay.
T'erea Brown is an American track and field athlete, specializing in hurdling events. She was the 2010 American champion in the 400-meter hurdles and the 2011 NCAA Outdoor champion in the event.
Jasmin Marie Stowers is a former American track and field athlete, who competed in the 100-meter hurdles. Her personal best for the event is 12.35 seconds, set in 2015, which ranks her 14th on the world all-time lists.
Kristi Castlin is an American track and field athlete who specializes in the 100 metres hurdles. She won a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics. Her personal best for the event is 12.50 seconds, set on July 8, 2016, during the finals of the 2016 United States Olympic Trials, in which she qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics by placing 2nd. She was the 2012 American champion in the indoor 60 metres hurdles and represented the United States at the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships. She shares the world record for the shuttle hurdle relay, with her time of 50.78 seconds set in 2013.
Courtney Hawkins is an American former track and field athlete who competed in the sprint hurdles. He was a medallist at the Pan American Games and the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 1995. He holds personal bests of 13.17 seconds for the 110-meter hurdles and 7.41 seconds for the 60-meter hurdles. He won one national title in his career, taking the 60 m event at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships in 1996.
Kendra "Keni" Harrison is an American hurdler. Harrison held the world record in the women's 100 metres hurdles with a time of 12.20 seconds, set on July 22, 2016 at the London Müller Anniversary Games, breaking the previous world record of 12.21 seconds achieved nearly 28 years earlier by Bulgarian athlete Yordanka Donkova.
Randy Jenelle Givens is an American former track and field athlete who competed in sprinting events. She set personal bests of 11.06 seconds for the 100-meter dash and 22.31 seconds for the 200-meter dash. Givens was a 200 m finalist at the 1984 Olympic Games and represented her country at the 1983 World Championships in Athletics. She was the 200 m gold medalist at the 1983 Pan American Games and returned to win a silver medal at the 1987 edition.
