Angus Groom (born 16 June 1992) is a British rower. He is a silver medallist at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He has also won two World Cup gold medals, two World Cup silver medals, a World Cup bronze and European championship bronze. [1]
Groom learnt to row in 2005 at Walton Rowing Club, and first represented Britain at the GB-France Match in 2008 before going on to row at the World Rowing Junior Championships. From 2010 to 2013 he read for a degree in Natural Sciences at Durham University as a member of Hatfield College. [2] In 2013, he was named as Team Durham’s Sportsman of the Year after winning all three BUCS Championship sculling events and helping Durham claim the Victor Ludorum for a tenth successive year. [3] He was a member of the Scotland Team at the 2014 Commonwealth Rowing Championships.
He competed in the men's quadruple sculls event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. [4]
At the 2020 Summer Olympics held in 2021 in Tokyo, Groom won a silver together with Harry Leask, Tom Barras and Jack Beaumont in the Men's quadruple sculls. [5] Groom announced his retirement from international rowing after the Games to start a career as research scientist in medical science after studying at the University of Oxford. [6] [7]
Following the Olympics, Groom rowed for the Oxford University Boat Club in 2022. It was in this year that Oxford ended Cambridge's run of wins in The Boat Race, claiming victory by two and a quarter lengths. [8]
Sir Steven Geoffrey Redgrave is a British retired rower who won gold medals at five consecutive Olympic Games from 1984 to 2000. He has also won three Commonwealth Games gold medals and nine World Rowing Championships golds. He is the most successful male rower in Olympic history, and the only man to have won gold medals at five Olympic Games in an endurance sport.

Martin Sinković is a Croatian rower. He is the younger brother of fellow rower Valent Sinković, with whom he has won three Olympic gold medals. The brothers are the most decorated Croatian Summer Olympians in history and won gold medals in the double sculls at the 2016 Summer Olympics, the coxless pair at the 2020 Summer Olympics and the coxless pair at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Sinković won the silver medal in the quadruple sculls at the 2012 Summer Olympics with his brother, David Šain and Damir Martin. Helen Glover is a British professional rower and a member of the Great Britain Rowing Team. Ranked the number 1 female rower in the world in 2015–16, she is a two-time Olympic champion, triple World champion, quintuple World Cup champion and quintuple European champion. She and her partner Heather Stanning were the World, Olympic, World Cup and European record holders, plus the Olympic, World and European champions in the women's coxless pairs. She has also been a British champion in both women's fours and quadruple sculls.
Melanie Wilson is a British rower who competed for the GB rowing team. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she competed in the Women's quadruple sculls. At the 2016 Summer Olympics she won a silver medal in the women's eight.
Polly Swann is a British rower and a member of the Great Britain Rowing Team. She is a former World and European champion in the women's coxless pairs, having won the 2013 World Rowing Championships at Chungju in Korea, and the 2014 European Rowing Championships at Belgrade, Serbia with her partner Helen Glover. At the 2016 Summer Olympics she won a silver medal in the women's eight.
Alexander Hill is an Australian representative rower. He is an Australian national champion, a dual Olympian, an Olympic gold and silver medallist and was the 2017 and 2018 world champion in the coxless four. He stroked the Australian men's coxless four to a gold medal victory at the Tokyo Olympics.
Cameron Girdlestone is an Australian representative rower. He is a five-time Australian national champion, a medalist at World Championships, a dual Olympian and an Olympic silver and bronze medallist. He raced in the Australian men's quad scull at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics to a bronze medal.
Jack Beaumont is a retired British rower. He is the silver medallist at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Men's quadruple sculls. He also won a silver medal at the World Championships.
Emily Craig is a British lightweight Olympic champion and three-time world champion rower.
Mathilda Kathryn R. Hodgkins-Byrne is a British rower. She won a gold medal in the double scull at the 2016 World Rowing U23 Championships. She won a bronze medal at the 2017 World Rowing Championships in Sarasota, Florida, as part of the quadruple sculls with Bethany Bryan, Jessica Leyden and Holly Nixon.
