Anika Tene Omphroy is an American politician who served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives [1] from 2018 to 2022. Omphroy represented the State's 95th House District,which includes part of Broward County. She is a member of the Democratic Party.
Omphroy became State Representative Elect on Qualifying day,a significant turn of events,when incumbent state Representative Barrington Russell,Sr. failed to qualify at noon on June 22,2018. This unexpected outcome reshaped the political landscape of central Broward County and set the stage for Omphroy's future in local politics.2
Omphroy,who had never held elected office before,demonstrated her energy and passion in the 2016 election. She faced the Mayor of Lauderdale Lakes,Barrington Russell,in the open seat election for House District 95. Despite finishing third,Omphroy was within three percentage points of Russel and Robert Lynch. Her dedication was recognized by The Sun Sentinal Editorial Board,who endorsed her in that race,stating,"Omphroy is a business consultant who exudes energy and passion for helping people and businesses do better." -Sun Sentinal Editorial Board 2016 3
