Anish Bhanwala is an Indian pistol shooter, supported by OGQ. He is from Karnal Haryana and competes in the 25 meter rapid fire pistol, 25 meter pistol, and 25 meter standard pistol events. Anish joined the Indian Shooting Team in 2017. He represented India at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, 2018 Asian Games, ISSF Junior World Championship 2017 (Suhl), Commonwealth Shooting Championships 2017 (Brisbane), World Shooting Championships 2018 and numerous ISSF Senior and Junior World Cups and South Asian Games, Kathmandu. Early life

Bhanwala was born in village Kashandi, Sonipat and brought up in Karnal, Haryana. [2] He attended high school at St. Theresa's Convent Sr. Sec. School. [3] His passion for shooting came while participating in modern pentathlon events. He participated in Modern Pentathlon World championship in Cyprus when he was just 11 years old. His next Modern Pentathlon competition was UIPM Asian Oceanic (Olympic Qualification Competition) Championship in Beijing, China.

He had the full support of his parents from the just beginning of his sports life. His father borrowed a pistol for him to shoot at a range. Anish's elder sister Muskan Bhanwala is also an International Medalist. She won an individual Gold and a team Gold medal in ISSF Junior World Cup, Sydney, 2018. She has represented India at various Senior World Cups, Junior World Cups and Junior World Championships winning Bronze in ISSF JR World Championship, Suhl, Germany. She has won numerous medals in National Shooting Championships.

Career

He represented the country at U-12 modern pentathlon World Championships in 2013 and Asian Modern Pentathlon Championships in 2015. Shooting was his favourite among the pentathlon's five sports. [4]

Anish along with his family moved to New Delhi in 2017 to have the best training facilities available at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range. [5]

In ISSF Junior World Championship 2017, Suhl, Anish won two gold, two silver, and one bronze. In 25m Standard Pistol event Anish created a New World Record by shooting 579/600 score. [6]

In 2017 Commonwealth Shooting Championships, Brisbane, Australia, he won silver in 25m Rapid Fire Men. [7] [8] This was Anish's first senior international competition as a member of Indian squad.

In the Commonwealth Games 2018 at age 15 Anish won a gold medal for India and became the youngest Indian to win a gold medal in Commonwealth Games. [9] He set a new Commonwealth Games final record of 30 hits in the finals.

In ISSF Junior World Cup 2018, Sydney he won one individual gold and one team silver in 25m Rapid Fire Junior Men. [10] This was the first time in history that two siblings won individual Gold in any ISSF series. This was the competition where Anish's sister Muskan too won Gold medals. [11]

In ISSF Junior World Cup 2019, Germany, he again won gold in the men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol. [12]

Anish made his First ISSF Senior's achievement in 2019 in ISSF World Cup, New Delhi when he shot India's new National Record score of 588/600 in the qualification round and secured the 5th rank in the Finals. In the 65th National Shooting Championship, Bhopal he broke his own previous National record to set a new National record score of 590/600. In the ISSF World Cup, Cairo 2023 Anish won an Individual bronze medal.

Anish won two bronze medals in the Asian Shooting Championship, Changwon 2023 and along with the medals he secured the much awaited Olympic Quota in the Rapid Fire Pistol event for India. India won this Olympic quota in Rapid Fire Pistol event after a period of long 11 years.

Coach

Anish Bhanwala's personal Coach is DSP Harpreet Singh, 2010 Commonwealth Games Individual and Team Gold Medalist. Anish was inspired by DSP Harpreet Singh when the police officer won 02 gold medals and a silver Medal in 2010 Commonwealth games and 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow respectively. Harpreet has been Anish's mentor since 2015 when they first met in a National Championship and since then he has been the force behind his performance.

He is amongst the most celebrated shooters of the country. He is defending champion in CWG in 25 mtr centre fire pistol event since 2010.He has also won BEST SHOOTER trophy for shooting a new meet record( only police officer to reach the podium 05 times during the same meet) and winning 02 gold and 02 silver medals in 11th All India police services meet-Jan 2018. His medal tally includes more than 150 international medals from common wealth games, South Asian games, Asian shooting championship, ISSF world cup, world championship and Grand pix.

Heena Sidhu is an Indian sport shooter. On 7 April 2014, Sidhu became the first Indian pistol shooter to reach number one in world rankings by the International Shooting Sport Federation. In 2013, Sidhu became the first Indian pistol shooter to win a gold medal in an ISSF World Cup finals when she won the 10-metre air pistol event. In 2014, Sidhu was the World record holder in the 10-metre air pistol event with a final score of 203.8. Sidhu is right handed and is right eye dominant.

In 2018, at the XXI Commonwealth Games held at Gold Coast, Australia, she won a silver medal in Women's 10m Air Rifle after a shoot-off with Martina Veloso. The qualification round of Men's 25 metre rapid fire pistol event was held on 12 and 13 April 2018 at the Belmont Shooting Centre, while the final was held on 13 April 2018 at the same place. Anish Bhanwala from India won the gold medal while Sergei Evglevski from Australia won the silver medal.

Adarsh Singh is an Indian sport shooter who competes in the 25 meter rapid fire pistol and 10 meter air pistol. He won silver at the ISSF World Cup 2021(New Delhi) in the 25m Rapid Fire Men Team Event. He has also won Gold at South Asian Games 2019 and Bronze at Asian Shooting Championship the same year . Recently he has added a Bronze Medal to his Tally at the Asian Games 2022.

Esha Singh is an Indian amateur shooter from Hyderabad, Telangana state, supported by OGQ. She became the National Champion in the 10m Air Pistol category in 2018 at the age of 13 and created history. she will represent India in the 10m air pistol at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Udhayveer Sidhu is an Indian sport shooter who competes in the 25 meter rapid fire pistol, 25 meter pistol, 25 meter standard pistol and 10 meter air pistol. He won a twenty plus international medals representing India. He is in the Indian Shooting Team since 2018. In 2018 ISSF Junior World Cup he won the 25m pistol bronze at the Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany, and the twins, along with Raj Kanwar Singh, claimed the Indian team's historic gold medal in the event with a world record score of 1747. He won two golds in 2018 ISSF World Shooting Championships. In 2019 he won two golds and a bronze in 2019 ISSF Junior World Cup and later at 2019 Asian Shooting Championships in 25 meter standard pistol he won a gold and a silver. In 2021 at 2021 ISSF Junior World Championships he won an individual gold. In 2022 at ISSF Junior World Cup held at Suhl, Germany he won the silver in 25 meter standard pistol open junior mixed team and later at 2022 ISSF World Shooting Championships he won two golds and a bronze.

Vijayveer Singh Sidhu is an Indian sport shooter from Chandigarh. He competes in the 25m rapid fire pistol discipline. He was part of the Indian shooting team at the 2022 Asian Games, Hangzhou, China. He was part of the Indian team that won the 25m rapid fire pistol bronze at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou. He holds the Junior World Record in the 25m standard pistol team event along with his brother Udhayveer Singh and Adarsh.

Sheileen Waibel is an Austrian sports shooter. She has represented Austria in ISSF Air Rifle and 50M Rifle at European and World Championship level. Her father is Olympic medallist Wolfram Waibel Jr., and grandfather is five time Olympian Wolfram Waibel Sr.
