Anjali Nimbalkar is an Indian physician and politician. She is a senior leader and spokesperson of the Indian National Congress (INC). [1] She represented Khanapur of Belgaum district at the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from 2018 to 2023. [2] [3] She has been announced as the INC candidate for the Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha constituency in the 2024 Indian general election.

Nimbalkar holds MBBS degree with masters in Gynaecology and Laparoscopy. She is one of the ten doctors elected to make it to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. [4]

Personal life

Anjali Nimbalkar was born on 22 August 1976 into a Hindu family in Khanapur, Belagavi district of Karnataka. She is married to Hemant Nimbalkar, an officer with the Indian Police Service. [5] [6]

Political career

In 2018, Anjali Nimbalkar contested the election from Khanapur in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly election and won against Vithal Halagekar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). [7] [8] She secured a total of 36,649 votes, defeating Halagekar by a margin of 5,133 votes. [7] Nimbalkar protested the salary hike under the Karnataka Ministers Salaries and Allowances (Amendment) Bill, 2022, by the Government of Karnataka, and requested the government to spend the same money to provide better facilities to the citizens.

She organized a padyatra to highlight issues of poor and neglected communities from her constituency. [8] In the 2023 Assembly election, she lost to Halagekar by a margin of more than 54,000 votes. [9]

In the 2024 general election to the Lok Sabha, she contested the Uttara Kannada constituency as a candidate of the Indian National Congress. [10] However, she was not successful in this election. [11]

Chandrakant Bellad is the former member of Karnataka Legislative Assembly and an Indian Politician. He first contested 1983 Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections as a Janata Party candidate from Dharwad Assembly constituency and lost by a wafer thin margin of 132 votes against S. R. Morey of Indian National Congress. Later he defeated the same candidate and emerged victorious in 1985 Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections. He unsuccessfully contested against then 3-time Indian National Congress MP D. K. Naikar from Dharwad North Lok Sabha constituency during 1991 Indian general elections. He was the President of Border Area Development Authority from 2008 to 2013. He announced retirement from active politics before 2013 Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections.

Kashappanavar Vijayanand Shivashankarappa is an Indian politician from Karnataka. He is a member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from the Hungund in Bagalkot district, representing Indian National Congress. He won the 2023 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election.

Bhagirathi Murulya is an Indian politician who was first elected to office in 2023 as a member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly representing the Sullia constituency.
