Ann Brown was an American curler who was elected to the United States Curling Association Hall of Fame in 1993.

Curling history

Brown began curling in 1969 at the Exmoor Curling Club in Illinois. She went on to win the United States Women's Curling Association national bonspiel seven times, primarily playing as skip or vice-skip. [1] She also won the Women's Championship in Illinois six times and the Illinois State Mixed Championship two times, the later playing with her husband Larry. [1]

In 1985, Brown was one of the founding directors of the United States Women's Curling Association. [2] From 1986 until 1987, Brown served as the president of the United States Women's Curling Association. [3] [4] In 1991, Brown became the first women to serve as president of the United States Curling Association. [5] Brown also played a key role in bringing curling to the Olympics, which first debuted at the 1998 Winter Olympics held in Nagano, Japan. [1] Brown was one of the senior curling officials at the 2002 Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City, Utah [1] and served as the United States representative to the World Curling Federation for six years. [6]

Brown died at age 71 of pancreatic cancer in 2006. [1]

Awards and honors

Brown was elected to the United States Curling Association Hall of Fame in 1993. [4] [1] USA Curling awards the Ann Brown sportsmanship award each year to one male and one female athlete competing in the United States Men's Curling Championship or United States Women's Curling Championship who embody the "spirit of curling". He also won a bronze medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. He has played in five straight Winter Olympics and nine World Curling Championships.

Lisa Schoeneberg is an American curler and Olympian. She was a successful skip in the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s, leading her teams to two silver medals at the World Championships and represented the United States at the Olympic Games twice.

The goal of the USCA is to grow the sport of curling in the United States and win medals in competitions both domestic and abroad. Curling's recent popularity has swelled the USCA to 185 curling clubs and approximately 23,500 curlers in the United States. The United States Olympic men's curling teams have seen success in recent years, most notably winning the gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, led by skip John Shuster.

Cory Christensen is an American curler from Duluth, Minnesota. Christensen was one of the top junior women's curlers in the United States, playing in six national junior championships and winning four of them. She was the alternate on Nina Roth's 2018 United States Olympic team.

Tabitha Skelly Peterson is an American curler from Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was a bronze medalist at the 2010 World Junior Championships and is a two-time women's national champion. She currently is skip of her own team, having traded positions with Nina Roth during the 2020 off-season.

The Madison Curling Club (MCC) is a curling club located in McFarland, Wisconsin, United States. MCC was the third-largest curling club in the United States with 570 members as of February 2014. The club had 590 members for the 2019-2020 season.

Lori Ann Mountford is an American curler. Born in Portage, Wisconsin, she graduated from Poynette High School and started curling at age 20 at Madison Curling Club. Mountford is a two-time Olympian, competing the 1988 Winter Olympics when curling was first re-introduced as an exhibition sport and then again at the 1998 Winter Olympics when curling was a full event. Her team, skipped by Lisa Schoeneberg, placed 5th both times.

Joni Cotten is an American curler from Mount Prospect, Illinois.
