Warner was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland for Kurilpa in 1983, and for South Brisbane in 1986. She was Minister for Family Services and Minister for Aboriginal and Islander Affairs in the Labor Party government of Wayne Goss from 1989 until her retirement in 1995. [1] Her party activity included being a branch President and President of her Electorate Executive, a State Conference delegate and Convenor of the Women's Policy Committee. Warner is married and has three children. [1]
During Warner's six years in opposition, she spoke vociferously on a wide range of issues including civil rights, education, government maladministration, corruption, and child welfare. Throughout her parliamentary career she showed great concern for minority groups and women, especially disadvantaged women, and their right to be free from any sort of discrimination.

The Mundingburra state by-election, 1996 was a by-election held on 3 February 1996 for the Queensland Legislative Assembly seat of Mundingburra, located in the southern suburbs of Townsville. She was a Liberal Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1990 to 2004, representing the electorates of Landsborough (1990–1992) and then Caloundra (1992–2004). She was the state Liberal leader from 1991 to 1998, and served as Deputy Premier in the Borbidge government from 1996 to 1998.
James Peter Elder is a former Australian politician. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1989 to 2001, representing Manly until 1992 and Capalaba thereafter. Originally elected as a Labor member and serving as Deputy Premier in the Beattie Government, Elder resigned from the party on 30 November 2000.
