Annmarie Hanlon is an author of digital marketing textbooks, an academic at Cranfield University and contributes to debates on emerging technology in the UK. She has spoken to the Daily Mail and Sky News about Christmas adverts, [1] [2] to Metro about Elon Musk's Twitter takeover [3] and to the BBC about disabled influencers. [4]
She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Court Assistant of the Worshipful Company of Marketors [5] . She was a Trustee of Birmingham School of Acting with Simon M. Woods. Hanlon gained her PhD in 2019 [6] .
In 1994 Hanlon was named a director of the Prince's Youth Trust. [7]
Hanlon has published the leading textbook on digital marketing, textbooks and reference books on digital business and social media marketing. The third edition of the textbook Digital Marketing (publication March 2025), is used in over 197 universities and has been translated into Greek [8] [9] .
She worked as a marketing and business consultant for over 25 years, moving into academia in 2016. Hanlon taught social media management at the University of St Gallen business school (2016, 2018) and joined Cranfield School of Management in 2019. She is course director for MSc marketing and leadership. [18] Hanlon is the editor of the marketing series of talks for HST. [19] Florida International University (FIU) invited Hanlon as a visiting fellow to its international executive MBA programme (2022, 2023).

Edmund Jerome McCarthy was an American marketing professor and author. He proposed the concept of the 4 Ps marketing mix in his 1960 book Basic Marketing: A Managerial Approach, which has been one of the top textbooks in university marketing courses since its publication. According to the Oxford Dictionary of Marketing, McCarthy was a "pivotal figure in the development of marketing thinking". He was also a founder, advisory board member, and consultant for Planned Innovation Institute, which was established to bolster Michigan industry. In 1987, McCarthy received the American Marketing Association's Trailblazer Award, and was voted one of the "top five" leaders in marketing thought by the field's educators.
Paul Baines is a British marketing academic, specialising in the topic of marketing for political parties and candidates. He is the professor in Political Marketing at Cranfield University. He was the former Director of Business Development at the Middlesex University Business School and the former the Director for the Baines Associates Limited, since 2008. In 2019 he joined the University of Leicester as Professor of Political Marketing and Associate Dean.
A knowledge market is a mechanism for distributing knowledge resources. There are two views on knowledge and how knowledge markets can function. One view uses a legal construct of intellectual property to make knowledge a typical scarce resource, so the traditional commodity market mechanism can be applied directly to distribute it. An alternative model is based on treating knowledge as a public good and hence encouraging free sharing of knowledge. This is often referred to as attention economy.
