Anthony David Hobson (born 10 September 1965) is a former English cricketer. Hobson was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm off break. He was born in Eccleshall, Staffordshire.
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a 20-metre (22-yard) pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at the wicket with the bat, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this and dismiss each player. Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground. When ten players have been dismissed, the innings ends and the teams swap roles. The game is adjudicated by two umpires, aided by a third umpire and match referee in international matches. They communicate with two off-field scorers who record the match's statistical information.
Off break is the type of delivery in the sport of cricket. It is the attacking delivery of an off spin bowler. Off breaks are known as off spinners.
Eccleshall is a town in Staffordshire, England. It is located seven miles north west of Stafford, and six miles west of Stone. Eccleshall is twinned with Sancerre in France.
Hobson made his debut for Staffordshire in the 1989 Minor Counties Championship against Durham. Hobson played Minor counties cricket for Staffordshire from 1989 to 1994, which included 22 Minor Counties Championship matches [1] and 5 MCCA Knockout Trophy matches. [2] He made his only List A appearance for Staffordshire against Warwickshire in the 1992 NatWest Trophy. [3] He was dismissed for a duck in this match by Allan Donald. [4]
Staffordshire County Cricket Club is one of twenty minor county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Staffordshire. The team is currently a member of the Minor Counties Championship Eastern Division and plays in the MCCA Knockout Trophy. Staffordshire played List A matches occasionally from 1971 until 2005 but is not classified as a List A team per se.

The Minor Counties Cricket Association Knockout Cup was started in 1983 as a knockout one-day competition for the Minor Counties in English cricket. At first it was known as the English Industrial Estates Cup, before being called the Minor Counties Knock Out Competition from 1986 to 1987, the Holt Cup from 1988 to 1992, the MCC Trophy from 1993 to 1998, the ECB 38-County Cup from 1999 to 2002, the MCCA Knockout Trophy from 2003 to 2005. It has been called the MCCA Trophy since 2006.
