Antigua Barbuda Global Music & Media Awards (ABGMA) is an annual [1] event in Antigua and Barbuda established by So Arise Music International in 2014, [2] to celebrate and award talent in music [3] [4] [5] [6] and media. [7] [8] The festival promotes artistic excellence, community contributions, and cultural enrichment in Antigua and Barbuda and the region by extension. [9] [10] [11]

Contents

Initially focused on gospel music, [12] [13] [14] [15] the ABGMA was founded on 2014 by Apostle Stanshaw Cornelius. It has since expanded to include multiple awards, [16] such as the Legacy Ball & Media Awards [17] [18] [19] and the Island Groove Awards, recognizing achievements in over 80 categories. Voting system

The festival employs an online voting system in more than 80 categories. [24] [25] [26] [27] [23]

In addition to the public voting, there is a committee that evaluates nominees based on several criteria, including popularity, relevance to current trends, and the quality of information presented. [21] [23]

The founders established also the ABGMA Academy, [28] which invites professionals from diverse creative fields to become Voting Members, actively participating in the nomination process. [29] [23]

The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) is a political party in Antigua and Barbuda. The current leader of the party is Gaston Browne, who serves as the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda. Osinachi Kalu Okoro Egbu, known professionally as Sinach, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and senior worship leader, serving in this capacity for over 30 years. She is the first singer-songwriter to top the Billboard Christian Songwriter chart for 12 weeks in a row. Her song "Way Maker" received three nominations and won the Song of the Year at the 51st GMA Dove Awards, making her the first Nigerian to win the Award. She also won the BMI song of the year, and in 2021 was recognized by the US Congress while on tour in the United States of America.

Sir Ronald Michael Sanders is an Antiguan Barbudan diplomat, academic, former broadcast-journalist, and the current Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States and to the Organization of American States (OAS) since 2015. He holds the unique distinction of being the first person, since the OAS enlarged its membership in 1962, to serve as Chairman of the Permanent Council of the OAS for an unprecedented three terms. He completed his highly successful third term on December 31, 2023, having played a widely recognized role in guiding the work of the Permanent Council in the peaceful transition of government in Guatemala on 14 January 2024.

Sherwin Gardner (Arima) is a Trinidadian gospel reggae singer. He is noted for his use of dancehall style and patois. On 2015 he won the ABGMA Best Gospel Album of the Year award, on 2017 the ABGMA Best Praise/Worship award and on 2024 the ABGMA Inspirational Song of the Year award.

Edmond Mansoor is an Antiguan and Barbudan politician and physician. He is the former senate president of the Upper House of Parliament in Antigua and Barbuda. He has also served as the Minister of State and Minister of Communication and Telecommunications.

Republicanism in Antigua and Barbuda is a movement for the replacement of the constitutional monarchy of Antigua and Barbuda with a republican form of government.

Agriculture has been an important industry in Antigua and Barbuda since it was colonised in the 1600s. Today, less than five per cent of the population works in agriculture, and agriculture only contributes to 2.1% of the GDP. The primary crops exported by Antigua and Barbuda are bananas, coconuts, and other tropical fruits and vegetables. 20.5% of the country's land is used for agriculture.

He is Antigua and Barbuda's permanent representative to the UNWTO. He is known for his efforts to boost investments in Antigua and Barbuda amounting to over $100 million, and for his investigations, which led to major revelations on Credit Suisse AT1 bonds considered by the Financial Times as "one of the most consequential European banking scoops of the year" which "scooped the world’s financial press."

Colin V. A. Derrick is a United Progressive Party politician, who was appointed to the Senate of Antigua and Barbuda for the government on 23 March 2004.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Aviation in Antigua and Barbuda</span>

Antigua and Barbuda maintains a significant aviation industry. In December 2024, there were two main commercial airports, V. C. Bird International Airport and Burton–Nibbs International Airport. The civil aviation industry is largely controlled by the central government, owning the largest airline, LIAT. However, the domestic flight industry is usually dominated by small airlines like BMN Air. Antigua and Barbuda also has a significant military aviation sector, being one of the only countries in the Caribbean to maintain an air force.

Antigua.news is a digital news and opinion portal founded in 2022 by Ambassador Dario Item as the official news channel of the Embassy of Antigua and Barbuda in Madrid, focused on delivering coverage of current affairs in Antigua and Barbuda, as well as key global breaking news. It is best known for its investigations into the Credit Suisse AT1 bonds case which, according to Financial Times, “scooped the world’s financial press.”

On 14 January 2025, a by-election was held in the Antiguan parliamentary seat of St. Peter following the assassination of Asot Michael. It was Antigua and Barbuda's third election since Prime Minister Gaston Browne emerged victorious in the 2023 general election. It was also the second by-election held outside of Barbuda since independence in 1981. At 23:24 AST, the election was called by ABS for Turner.

The Antigua Broadcasting Service (ABS) is the state-owned broadcaster of Antigua and Barbuda. It operates one radio station and one television channel, the latter being the country's only channel, outside of cable.
