Mercy Nnenda Chinwo popularly known as Mercy Chinwo (born 5 September 1991) is a Nigerian gospel musician, singer, actress and songwriter. She was signed to EeZee Conceptz in 2017. In 2018, she released the single "Excess Love". [1]

Early life and education

Mercy Nnenda Chinwo was born on 5 September 1991, [2] in Rivers State, southern Nigeria. Mercy Chinwo gained recognition through her participation in the Nigerian music talent show, "Nigerian Idol." She was a contestant on the second season of the show in 2012 and emerged as the winner, which significantly boosted her career in the music industry. Her victory on Nigerian Idol provided a platform for her to launch her music career, particularly in the gospel music genre. Several years after, she was signed to EeZee Conceptz in 2017 where she made releases of several successful gospel songs and albums, becoming a prominent figure in the Nigerian gospel music scene. She got her first school leaving certificate at the Goodwill International School and her secondary school education at Paradise International School. [3] She is an alumna of the International Business Management Institute (IBMI) where she bagged a degree in Human Resources Management. [4] She started singing at age 6 in her church children's choir. [5] [6]

Personal life

She got married [3] on 13 August 2022 in Port Harcourt to Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa; they live in Lagos, Nigeria. [7] In 2023, they had their first child together. [8] [9]

Career and philanthropy

Chinwo's single 'Excess Love' was released in 2018. Chinwo released her first single, "Testimony" in 2015, and "Igwe". Two years later, she was signed to a gospel record label named EeZee Conceptz led by EeZee Tee. [10]

Chinwo is a gospel music minister. [11] Since breaking into the gospel scene, she has been featured on a number of gospel music projects, working with the likes of JJ Hairson, Nathaniel Bassey, Chioma Jesus, Banky W, Joe Praize, Samsong, Moses Bliss, Dunsin Oyekan, Judikay, Preye Odede and a host of others. [12]

In 2023, she alongside her husband began the MercyisBlessed Foundation, an NGO focused on donations to the less privileged as well as youth development. [13]

The Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols Festival is a large gathering of carol singers in Nigeria. A concert featuring 25,272 carol singers at the Akwa Ibom Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom, Nigeria, with Guinness World Records representatives in attendance, was officially certified as the largest such gathering in the world by Guinness World Records on December 13, 2014, against a former record of 15,674 carol singers which was achieved the previous year by a group called CENTI in Bogotá, Colombia.

The Experience is an annual, free gospel music concert held at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos Island, Nigeria. Begun and hosted by House on the Rock lead pastor Paul Adefarasin in 2006, the first concert had an attendance of 70,000 people.
