Antonio Dal Monte (Rome, October 31, 1931) is an Italian physician. He is the former Scientific Director and Head of the Department of Physiology and Biomechanics Institute of Sports Science of the Italian National Olympic Committee (C.O.N.I.). [1]
Dal Monte graduated from the faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Rome, then obtained a teaching qualification in Physiology Human and Sports Medicine. He is also a specialist in Pneumology, Occupational Medicine, and in aerospace medicine.
Dal Monte served as Scientific Director and Head of the Department of Physiology and Biomechanics Institute of Science of the Italian National Olympic Committee Sport (CONI).
He is one of the founders of the science of functional evaluation of athletes. He taught at the School of Specialization in Sports Medicine for Doctor of the University of Rome La Sapienza, of the Catholic University of Sacred Heart of Rome and of the University of L'Aquila.
For more than 35 years, Dal Monte consulted with Fiat (FCA) in the field of the vehicle seat and on-board instrumentation design as well as the study of ergonomic driving positions and posture of race vehicles, motorboats, aircraft, and gliders — to understand and optimize the operational relationship of man and machine. Consulting with Fiat (FCA), Dal Monte designed seats for the Fiat Idea using biometric principles developed at the Italian National Olympic Committee's sports medicine institute. [2]
Dal Monte carried out scientific work in the field of evaluation of cardio-circulatory, respiratory, metabolic, and biomechanical of athletes, reflected in the publication of books, monographs, and articles. He designed numerous devices, notably an ergometer for the field study of athletes and for the laboratory simulation of the sporting gesture.

Sports biomechanics is a quantitative based study and analysis of professional athletes and sports activities in general. It can simply be described as the physics of sports. In this subfield of biomechanics the laws of mechanics are applied in order to gain a greater understanding of athletic performance through mathematical modeling, computer simulation and measurement. Biomechanics is the study of the structure and function of biological systems by means of the methods of mechanics. Within mechanics there are two sub-fields of study: statics, which is the study of systems that are in a state of constant motion either at rest or moving with a constant velocity; and dynamics, which is the study of systems in motion in which acceleration is present, which may involve kinematics and kinetics. Sports biomechanists help people obtain optimal muscle recruitment and performance. A biomechanist also uses their knowledge to apply proper load barring techniques to preserve the body.

The 2009 Mediterranean Games, officially the XVI Mediterranean Games and commonly known as Pescara 2009, was a multi-sport event held in Pescara, Italy, from 26 June to 5 July 2009. It was governed by the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (ICMG). A total of 3,368 athletes from 23 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) participated in the Games. Montenegro participated for the first time at the Mediterranean Games, after their independence in 2006. The program included competitions in 24 different sports, including three non-Olympic sports – bocce, karate, and water skiing – and golf, which will be reinstated as an official Olympic sport in 2016 Summer Olympics. Water skiing was introduced as a demonstration sport. Two disabled sports, athletics and swimming, were also contested in the Games. Italy became the first nation to host the Mediterranean Games three times, having previously hosted them in Naples (1963) and Bari (1997).
