Myrmecology is a branch of entomology focusing on the scientific study of ants. Some early myrmecologists considered ant society as the ideal form of society and sought to find solutions to human problems by studying them. Ants continue to be a model of choice for the study of questions on the evolution of social systems because of their complex and varied forms of eusociality. Their diversity and prominence in ecosystems also has made them important components in the study of biodiversity and conservation. Recently, ant colonies are also studied and modeled for their relevance in machine learning, complex interactive networks, stochasticity of encounter and interaction networks, parallel computing, and other computing fields.
The University of Kelaniya(Sinhala: කැලණිය විශ්වවිද්යාලය, Tamil: களனி பல்கலைக்கழகம், abbreviated UoK) is a state university in Sri Lanka. Just outside the municipal limits of Colombo, in the city of Kelaniya, the university has two major institutions and seven faculties.

Mammals of Sri Lanka by written by Asoka Yapa and illustrated by Gamini Ratnavira is a zoology book about the mammalian species of Sri Lanka. This is the first complete zoological book about mammals in Sri Lanka in 80 years. The first Sri Lankan book on mammals dated back to 1935, when W.W.A Phillips wrote Manuals of The Mammals of Ceylon. After that, many journals and other minor works on the topic were published, but no fully-detailed and fully-photographed volumes.

Chamindi Dilkushi Senaratne (Wettewe) is a Professor in English Language Teaching at the English Language Teaching Unit of the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka. She completed her PhD at Radboud University, Nijmegen in the Netherlands. Her research interests are contact linguistics, sociolinguistics and bilingualism. She was Head of the English Language Teaching Unit at the University of Kelaniya from 2010 to 2014. Currently, she is the Director of the Staff Development Center at the University of Kelaniya. She is the author of Sinhala-English code mixing in Sri Lanka, a sociolinguistic study, which was published by Netherlands Graduate Institute of Linguistics (LOT) and Discourse Strategies of Sri Lankan bilinguals, which was published by Godage International Publishers, Sri Lanka.

She is known for her efforts to end the garbage crisis in Sri Lanka and is nicknamed as Garbage Queen. She founded the National Programme on Recycling of Solid Waste to solve the garbage crisis.
