Aparajitha Balamurukan (born 17 March 1994) is an Indian female academic and professional squash player who is generally a regular member of the Indian squash team. [1] [2] She achieved her highest career PSA ranking of World No. 77 in August 2010 during the 2010 PSA World Tour. [3]

Early life

Aparajitha was born in Erode and raised in Chennai. Her father Balamurukan was a prominent businessman. She took the interest on the sport of squash at the age of eight. [4]

Career

She joined the Professional Squash Association in 2009 at the age of 15 and took part in the 2009 PSA World Tour. She signed for a coaching camp in basic squash training at the ICL Academy. Aparajitha completed her MBA degree while playing squash. [5]

She received her maiden opportunity to represent India at the 2012 Women's World Team Squash Championships and was part of the team which was defeated 0–3 by Egypt in the quarterfinals. She also represented India at the 2014 Asian Games and claimed a silver medal in the women's team event, losing 0–2 to Malaysia. In the same year, she also competed at the 2014 World University Squash Championship. However her career rankings dropped below 100 after 2014 despite a promising start to her career in 2009. [4]

At the 2019 Women's Asian Individual Squash Championships, she reached third round of the event and lost to Hong Kong's Liu Tsz Ling. [6]

Tanvi Khanna is an Indian female professional squash player and is a regular member of the Indian squash team. She is currently ranked 69 in International rankings and is regarded as one of the finest squash players to have emerged from India. She was ranked as women's no.1 squash player in September 2023. She also plays for Columbia Lions squash team which belongs to the Columbia University. She achieved her highest PSA world ranking of 86 in September 2021 and broke into the top 100 for the first time during the 2019-20 PSA World Tour.

Marlene West is a Jamaican-born squash player who has represented both Jamaica and Cayman Islands at the international competitions. She initially pursued her career in swimming and water polo before switching to squash. She has competed at the Commonwealth Games on five occasions representing Jamaica and Cayman Islands in two different time intervals. She is also a four time Cayman Islands national champion in the women's singles and she is regarded as one of the best squash players to have represented Cayman Islands. She has claimed medals in international events even after the age of 40's. She achieved her highest PSA career ranking of 71 in May 2010 during the 2010 PSA World Tour.

Risa Sugimoto is a Japanese female professional squash player who represents Japan women's national squash team internationally. She achieved her highest career PSA world ranking of 127 in January 2018 during the 2017-18 PSA World Tour.

Philippa Beams is a New Zealand former professional squash player who was also a former national champion and world doubles champion in the women's category. She represented New Zealand national women's squash team in several international competitions including the British Open Squash Championships, World Open Squash Championships and in World Team Squash Championships in a career spanning from 1992 to 1998. She achieved her highest career PSA ranking of 14 in January 1998 as a part of the 1998 PSA World Tour.

Maha Zein is a former Egyptian professional squash player who is currently a squash coach.
