Apartment 26 was a nu metal/industrial metal band from Leamington Spa, England, formed in 1998. They released two albums on the major labels Hollywood Records and Atlantic Records, Hallucinating and Music for the Massive respectively. After being dropped from Atlantic Records, the band disbanded in late 2004. [5]
Apartment 26 was formed in 1998 by vocalist Terence "Biff" Butler, guitarist Jon Greasley, bassist Louis Cruden, and keyboardist Andy "A.C." Huckvale. The band name was taken from the David Lynch film Eraserhead . Also notably, Butler was the son of Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler. The band was influenced by older acts such as Black Sabbath, but also had embraced 1990s bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Deftones, The Prodigy, Tool, Fear Factory, among others. The band recorded a rough demo in 1998, which then found its way to Gravity Kills member Doug Firley. Firley was the keyboardist and programmer in Gravity Kills, but had also helped produce his band's full-length albums. [6] Firley then agreed to produce Apartment 26's debut EP, titled Within. The EP consisted of five tracks, three which was later re-recorded for the band's debut album, one ("Dystopia") which was later re-recorded for a soundtrack, and one ("Random Thinking") which remained exclusive to the EP.
In 1999, Apartment 26 added drummer Kevin Temple to the lineup so that live drums could be incorporated alongside Huckvale's programming. Temple was formerly a member of Die Warzau and Sister Machine Gun. Apartment 26 embarked as part of the lineup for the 1999 version of Ozzfest, and the band gained more exposure as a result. Major label Hollywood Records then signed the band afterwards. Shortly after Ozzfest concluded, Apartment 26 then went on various tours with Powerman 5000, Staind, Rollins Band, and Sevendust. The band then went through a rigorous recording process for their debut album, which was strained by the exhaustive touring schedule and by living together. One song from the sessions, "Dystopia", was included on the soundtrack for the film Heavy Metal 2000 prior to the album's release. The result was Hallucinating, released in May 2000. The album was produced by Ulrich Wild, who was known for his production work with industrial bands such as Stabbing Westward, Static-X, Powerman 5000, and others.
The single "Basic Breakdown" was the band's first breakthrough hit, as it peaked at #33 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and had lingered on the chart for six weeks. "Backwards" was also released as a single from the album and also appeared on the soundtrack for the film Mission: Impossible 2 . Both "Basic Breakdown" and "Backwards" also appeared in the PlayStation fighting game Gekido: Urban Fighters in 2000. [7] The band promoted Hallucinating by touring with Disturbed, followed by appearing on the 2000 edition of Ozzfest. In late 2000, drummer Temple had left the band. Jeremy Colson was added to the lineup and in early 2001, they toured England with Pitchshifter and then Papa Roach. [8]
Hallucinating had a delayed release for Europe, January 2001. The European version featured a bonus track ("Void"), which featured Fear Factory vocalist Burton C. Bell as a guest. Apartment 26 then appeared at the United Kingdom edition of Ozzfest in 2001, their third year in a row. Towards the end of 2001, Colson had parted ways from the band, and a replacement was not immediately named. [9] In the spring of 2002, Hollywood Records and Apartment 26 amicably parted ways while the band was recording their second album.
In July 2002, it was announced that Brad Booker from the band Stir had joined on drums. His first show with Apartment 26 was opening for Stone Sour. The band continued to work on their second album through the remainder of 2002 and throughout 2003. The band then signed with major label Atlantic Records for the album. They extensively toured the United Kingdom at the end of 2003 with a mixture of headlining shows and opening for Evanescence. The second album was tentatively titled Detachment (which was initially set for a 2003 release), but it was later changed to Music for the Massive. Music for the Massive was released in February 2004 and it was co-produced with Tchad Blake. [10] "88" was released as a promotional single for the album. The lead single was "Give Me More", and it peaked at #39 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. The album was not heavily promoted, and three months after its release, the band was dropped by Atlantic Records. Apartment 26 then formally announced that they had broken up towards the end of 2004. Soulfly is led by former Sepultura frontman Max Cavalera, who formed the band after he left the Brazilian group in 1996. To date the band has released twelve studio albums, one tour EP, twenty-three singles, one video album, and twelve music videos. Otep is an American alternative metal band. The band was formed in November 2000 in Los Angeles, California, by frontwoman Otep Shamaya. The band is noted for their style of "art-house nu metal", and their strong political stances. Throughout the course of several lineup changes over the years, Shamaya has remained the only constant member in the band.
GZR was an American heavy metal band founded by and named after Black Sabbath bassist/lyricist Geezer Butler. The band has been marketed with three different names on different releases, g//z/r in 1995, geezer in 1997, and GZR in 2005. Most fans refer to the band as "geezer," although Butler himself refers to the band name as "gee-zed-R". This incarnation of the band is not to be confused with Butler's previous attempt in 1985 to form a solo band, then known as the Geezer Butler Band – the two outfits are largely unrelated.

It Dies Today is an American metalcore band that formed in Buffalo, New York during September 2001. The band achieved popular success in 2004 with the release of their debut album, The Caitiff Choir. After frontman Nicholas Brooks departed in 2006, just after the release of the band's sophomore effort Sirens, It Dies Today released Lividity in 2009 before going on hiatus in 2010. The band reunited briefly for a show in 2012, but the reunion paused again in 2015. On December 22, 2022, It Dies Today was announced as an act appearing at FurnaceFest 2023.

H-Blockx is a German rock band founded in Münster in 1991. After the success of their debut album in 1994, Time to Move, the band received a nomination for Best Breakthrough Artist at the 1995 MTV Europe Music Awards. Immortal Souls is a melodic death metal band from Kokkola, Finland, formed in 1991. They released a split album and their debut on Little Rose Productions in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In 2002, Immortal Souls signed with Dutch label Fear Dark which released their second and third album as well as a compilation. They have performed at Tuska Open Air Metal Festival. Their musical style is characterized by their use of melodic guitar riffs and singing which shifts between growls and shouting. Their music has been called winter metal since Immortal Souls utilizes frosty metaphors in their lyrics and usually creates a cold, wintry atmosphere. The album Wintereich was released in 2007 in Europe on Dark Balance and in the USA through Facedown Records.
Vesperian Sorrow is an American symphonic black metal band from Austin, Texas, United States, founded in 1994. They were known as Unholy Descent until they changed their name to Vesperian Sorrow in early 1999. Their lyrics tend to be less extreme than most black metal bands that cover themes of Satanism and Anti-Christianity. They cover instead the cosmos, sorrow, sadness and darkness. Their name, Vesperian Sorrow, directly references this and translates to "sadness or sorrow in the evening hours."
