The Arcady Ensemble is a Canadian musical ensemble based in Brantford, Ontario founded in 1998 by composer and artistic director Ronald Beckett. [1] The organization serves as an arts training organization that combines professional singers and instrumentalists from Southwestern Ontario with emerging artists and youth in rehearsal and performance. [2] Its repertoire consists primarily of contemporary Canadian compositions by Ronald Beckett and emerging composers. [3] It holds performances entitled There’s a Song in the Air and Voices of Summer in Brantford each year. [4] [3] The ensemble evolved from a group that performed historically informed concerts of early music. [5] Arcady Ensemble still gives at least two early music performances annually, including Handel's Messiah at Lighthouse Festival Theatre in Port Dover, Ontario. Training Programs

The Emerging Artist Program provides early professional experience and mentorship for singers, instrumentalists, composers, conductors, poets, and dancers at the beginning stages of their professional careers. [7] Five to seven emerging artists are selected each season from a list of applicants. [8] These performers are showcased as soloists in Arcady Ensemble performances throughout the year, receive artistic and career mentorship by professional musicians, and premiere new music written especially for them by Ronald Beckett. [9]

The Arcady Youth Singers comprises young choristers ranging in age from 8 to 18, mostly from Brantford and Brant County. [10] [2]

The Emerging Artist Composer Competition is an annual international competition for musicians who self identify as emerging composers. [11] The application deadline is January 30 each year and the winners are announced the following month. [11] Winning compositions in both International and Canadian categories are premiered by Arcady Ensemble each June. [12] [9]

Director

Ronald Beckett is the founder, Artistic Director, and Composer-in-Residence of the Arcady Ensemble. [13] His compositions have been performed throughout Ontario, including fully staged performances of his opera trilogy: Ruth, John, and I Am... .  Ronald Beckett's compositions include works for orchestra, orchestra and chorus, chamber music, pieces for organ and piano, and some two hundred songs for soloists and youth chorus. [14] [15] His works are featured in Arcady Ensemble's recorded albums, music publications, and performances throughout each season. [16]

Ronald Beckett is a graduate of McMaster University in History and Theory, holds a Master of Music in Composition from the University of Western Ontario, and is an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Piano Performance. [17] [4] He is a member of SOCAN, the Canadian Music Centre, and the Canadian League of Composers. [17] [18] [14]

Arcady Ensemble has recorded five albums including three under the Crescendo label: A Baroque Messiah (1999), Welcome Yule! (2001), and the opera Ruth (2007); one album under Phoenix Records: A Beckett Miscellany (2002); and a holiday album for Ruby Productions: Peace on Earth (2000). [14]

The Bach-Elgar Choir is a community chorus of long standing in Hamilton, Ontario, currently directed by Alexander Cann. The Choir is composed of accomplished amateur singers from Hamilton and neighbouring cities of Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga and Simcoe. Notable performances by the ensemble include the North American première of Verdi's Requiem and the Canadian premières of Górecki's Miserere and Mahler's Symphony No. 2. Martin Pearlman

Martin Pearlman is an American conductor, harpsichordist, composer, and early music specialist. He founded the first permanent Baroque orchestra in North America with Boston Baroque in 1973–74. Many of its original players went on to play in or direct other ensembles in what became a growing field in the American music scene. He later founded the chorus of that ensemble and has been the music director of Boston Baroque from its inception up to the present day.

Brantford Galaxy Canadian association football team

Brantford Galaxy Soccer Club is a semi-professional Canadian soccer club based in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, with their home venue located in Hamilton, Ontario at the Heritage Field Turf. The club competes in the Canadian Soccer League, a league not sanctioned by a FIFA-recognized body. The Galaxy were formed in 2010 as an expansion franchise. In their first season Brantford recorded a milestone by becoming the first expansion franchise in CSL history to claim a CSL Championship in their debut season. Mitro (Mac) Makarchuk is a former politician and journalist. He was an Ontario New Democratic Party Member of Provincial Parliament for Brantford from 1967 to 1971 and again from 1975 to 1981.

The Toronto Tabla Ensemble (TTE) is a non-profit charitable organization founded by Artistic Director and tabla master Ritesh Das. The performing ensemble has toured Canada coast-to-coast six times, toured Australia in 2006, and India in 2011.

Musikay is a professional choir and orchestra based in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. Musikay was founded in 2005 under the name Oakville Chamber Choir by Artistic Director Stephane Potvin, a Quebec born conductor who also served as Resident Conductor and Artistic Administrator to the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra.

Ronald Beckett is a Canadian Composer, conductor, choir director, and the founder/ artistic director of the Arcady Ensemble.
