Architecture and Vision (AV) is an international multidisciplinary design agency that was formed in 2003 by Arturo Vittori [1] in partnership with Andreas Volger. [2] AV works in architecture, design, and art.
The practice is mainly based around technology transfer between disciplines such as aerospace, art, and architecture.
Architecture and Vision was established in 2003 and is directed by architect Arturo Vittori, based in Bomarzo Viterbo, Italy, and Andreas Vogler, based in Munich, Germany.
In 2006, the "DesertSeal" (2004), an extreme environment tent prototype, gained recognition when it became a part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. It was featured in the exhibition "SAFE: Design Takes on Risk" (2005), curated by Paola Antonelli. [3] The same year, Vittori and Vogler were honored as "Modern-day Leonardos" by the Museum of Science and Industry during its Leonardo da Vinci: Man, Inventor, Genius exhibition.
In 2007, the Museum of Science and Industry acquired a model of the inflatable habitat "MoonBaseTwo" (2007), designed to facilitate long-term exploration on the Moon. Additionally, the "MarsCruiserOne" (2007), a pressurized laboratory rover for Mars exploration, was showcased at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris as part of the Airs de Paris exhibition. [4]
The Sacco chair, also called a bean bag chair,beanbag chair, or simply a beanbag, is a large fabric bag, filled with polystyrene beans, designed by Piero Gatti, Cesare Paolini and Franco Teodoro in 1968. The product is an example of an anatomic chair, as the shape of the object is set by the user. “[The Sacco] became one of the icons of the Italian anti-design movement. Its complete flexibility and formlessness made it the perfect antidote to the static formalism of mainstream Italian furniture of the period,” as Penny Spark wrote in Italian Design – 1870 to the Present.
Gaetano Pesce is an Italian architect and a design pioneer of the 20th century. Pesce was born in La Spezia in 1939, and he grew up in Padua and Florence. During his 50-year career, Pesce has worked as an architect, urban planner, and industrial designer. His outlook is considered broad and humanistic, and his work is characterized by an inventive use of color and materials, asserting connections between the individual and society, through art, architecture, and design to reappraise mid-twentieth-century modern life.
Achille Castiglioni was an Italian architect and designer of furniture, lighting, radiograms and other objects. As a professor of design, he advised his students "If you are not curious, forget it. If you are not interested in others, what they do and how they act, then being a designer is not the right job for you."
Paola Antonelli is an Italian architect, curator, author, editor, and educator. Antonelli is the Senior Curator of Architecture and Design at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, where she also serves as the founding Director of Research and Development. She has been described as "one of the 25 most incisive design visionaries in the world" by TIME magazine.
Gaetana "Gae" Aulenti was an Italian architect and designer who was active in furniture design, graphic design, stage design, lighting design, exhibition and interior design. She was known for her contributions to the design of important museums such as the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, the Contemporary Art Gallery at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the restoration of Palazzo Grassi in Venice, and the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. Aulenti was one of only a few women architects and designers who gained notoriety in their own right during the post-war period in Italy, where Italian designers sought to make meaningful connections to production principles, and influenced culture far beyond Italy. This avant-garde design movement blossomed into an entirely new type of architecture and design, one full of imaginary utopias leaving standardization to the past.

The Macchina of Santa Rosa is a 30-metre-high (98 ft) machine built to honor Saint Rose of Viterbo, the patron saint of Viterbo, Italy. Every year on the evening of 3 September a hundred men called "Facchini di Santa Rosa" hoist the machine –weighing about 11,000 pounds (5,000 kg)– and carry it through the streets and squares of Viterbo's medieval town centre. The whole route is slightly longer than 1 km (0.62 mi). The machine is rebuilt anew about every five years.

LaFenice is a public sculpture by the Architecture and Vision design team, Arturo Vittori and Andreas Vogler, sited in the Piazza della Memoria of the waterfront in Messina, Sicily in Italy. The sculpture for this memorial square was selected in a city-sponsored competition as part of a larger urban renewal project started in 2003 to revitalize the public spaces between buildings built in the 1930s along the quay. The sculpture was unveiled on June 23, 2011.
