Arctic Sentry

Arctic Sentry is a NATO mission that has been announced on 11 February 2026. [1] Its aim is to increase NATO's military presence in the Arctic and the Far North. It is also a consequence of the dispute between the US and Denmark over Greenland that has been ongoing since 2025.

One focus is the GIUK gap between Greenland, Iceland and Great Britain as a route from the Arctic Ocean to the North Atlantic, which is also used by submarines of the Russian Navy.

The German Minister of Defence Pistorius (Merz cabinet) has announced that Germany will send four Eurofighter Typhoon. [2]
