Arghoslent is an American death metal band from Oakton, Virginia, [1] formed in mid-1990. While acclaimed in the metal underground for their traditional metal-influenced brand of galloping riffs and bluegrass-style guitar leads, the band's white supremacist lyrics have been the source of much criticism. [2] Arghoslent's primary lyrical themes include historical racism, apologia for the transatlantic slave trade, medieval warfare, [3] eugenics, [4] imperialism, and European genocide efforts against Native Americans.
Multiple sources, including the Southern Poverty Law Center, The Daily Beast and Vice have classified Arghoslent as white power music. [5] [6] [7] The band's music was removed from streaming services and online retailers such as iTunes beginning in 2014. [8]
The band's name combines the Greek words "argo" (fortress) and "slent" (slave). The band's website has a picture of a slave ship as its primary icon. [9] Arghoslent shares members with Virginia black metal band Grand Belial's Key, which formed in 1992. [10]
The band's lyrics often deal with the transatlantic slave trade. In a 2005 interview, the band said it was interested in the topic because Virginia was "built on the sweaty backs of imported slaves ... the history behind this reality is rooted in the trade of human cargo and imperial servitude. It serves our purpose well to capture these feelings of conquering savage lands. We hope to capture, through our music, the essence of combat, encourage and facilitate violence." [11]
While Arghoslent does not play black metal, the band relates to the National Socialist black metal (NSBM) scene, stating: "We identify with certain points of the so-called NSBM scene, that's obvious. The real question is: do they identify with ours? We pre-date most of this NSBM stuff by a few years." [11]
Arghoslent's second studio album Incorrigible Bigotry takes its album art from the 1830s painting Destruction, part of Thomas Cole's The Course of Empire series. The painting popularly features on white supremacist websites and apparel. The song "Mob of the Howling" is about Sack of Rome in 410 A.D. by the Visigoths, implying that the superior Germanic race with inevitably vanquish the inferior Mediterranean race. [12]
Shortly after the release of the band's third album Hornets of the Pogrom in 2008, guitarist Pogrom said in an interview, "Where I don’t see much contribution of any sort with anything other than brute force and servitude is in sub-Saharan Africa." Regarding the 2008 United States presidential election, Pogrom said, "Shame forced me to vote this year in an attempt to react to the embarrassment of having to be governed by a mulatto." He claimed that multiple metal magazines, including Zero Tolerance, rejected paid advertisements and press coverage opportunities because Arghoslent "is threatening to liberal pinko pseudo-extreme metal queers", with underground metal being led by "synagogue labels". Arghoslent finished recording and mixing the songs for their fourth studio album, Resuscitation of the Revanchists, published on September 21, 2023. Tracking was delayed due to the travel restrictions caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, until 2022. [14]

Eric's Trip is a Canadian indie rock band from Moncton, New Brunswick. Eric's Trip achieved prominence as the first Canadian band to be signed to Seattle's flagship grunge label Sub Pop in the early 1990s. The band had a minor hit in alternative circles with the single "View Master", from the 1994 album Forever Again.
Misery Index is an American death metal band formed in 2001 in Baltimore, Maryland, United States, by Jason Netherton, Mike Harrison, and Kevin Talley (drums). In 2003, the band opened for Dying Fetus and Skinless on their North American tour. From 2006–2010, its line-up consisted of Jason Netherton on bass and vocals, John Voyles on lead guitar, Mark Kloeppel on rhythm guitar and vocals, and Adam Jarvis on drums. In 2010, Voyles left the band and was replaced by Darrin Morris.

Graveland are a Polish neo-Nazi pagan black metal band which was formed in 1991 by Rob Darken. They began as a black metal band before adopting a pagan and Viking metal style. The lyrics and imagery of Graveland are strongly inspired by European mythology, nature, winter and war. Their early work focused on Celtic and Slavic mythology, while their later work focuses on Norse mythology and Wotanism.

Doom are an English hardcore punk band from Birmingham whose first lineup were together from 1987 to 1990. Despite its short existence, the band is considered pivotal in the rise of crust punk, a genre of punk rock that takes influence and elements from extreme metal. They recorded for Peaceville Records and are cited as an early precursor to grindcore. Doom were also a favourite of BBC Radio DJ John Peel.
Senseless Things were an English pop punk band, formed in 1986 in London. The band released four studio albums and achieved two UK Top 20 hit singles before splitting up in 1995. Senseless Things reformed in 2017 to play several gigs including Shepherd's Bush Empire, as well as to record and release new material. Vocalist Mark Keds died in early 2021.
Hirax is an American thrash metal band from Cypress, California. Starting in 1984 under the leadership of vocalist Katon W. De Pena, the band played in Los Angeles and San Francisco with several of their thrash metal peers such as Metallica, Exodus, and Slayer. The band was an early example of thrash metal, speed metal and crossover thrash, yet inspired by cross-genre influences including blues vocalist Sam Cooke, who De Pena once cited as "the greatest vocalist [De Pena] has ever heard."

Witchfynde are an English heavy metal band, forerunners of the new wave of British heavy metal movement of the late 1970s.
White Spirit were an English heavy metal band from Hartlepool, best remembered for guitarist Janick Gers who went on to play with Ian Gillan, Bruce Dickinson, and ultimately, Iron Maiden. Other original members of the band were Bruce Ruff (vocals), Malcolm Pearson (keyboards), Phil Brady (bass) and Graeme Crallan (drums), with a later lineup including Brian Howe (vocals), Mick Tucker (guitars) and Toby Sadler (bass). Pearson and Tucker revived the band between 2022 and 2024.
Grand Belial's Key (GBK) is a black metal band founded in Oakton, Virginia, in 1992 by guitarist Gelal Necrosodomy and vocalist Lord Vlad Luciferian. Lord Vlad Luciferian was later ejected from the group due to internal differences. To date the band has released four full-length albums.
John Haughm is an American musician and artist. He is most known for being the founder, guitarist, and vocalist of the band Agalloch, and later Pillorian. He is also a designer who has created packaging and merchandise for several record labels and bands, including every project in which he has performed. From 2008 to 2018 he was the co-owner, creative director, and curator of the Dämmerung Arthouse.

Scorn Defeat is the first full-length album by the Japanese black metal band Sigh, released in 1993 by Deathlike Silence Productions. It is the band's most traditional black metal album, taking on a formula lyrically compared to their Scandinavian peers. The album takes its title from a line in the title track from Venom's 1981 album Welcome to Hell. On Scorn Defeat, the line itself is said on "At My Funeral".

Their music uses standard black metal elements mixed with traditional Gallic instrumentation, and influences from genres like punk and electronic music. The band is sometimes referred to as P.N. or K.P.N.

OvO is an Italian noise rock duo formed by Stefania Pedretti and Bruno Dorella in 2000 in Ravenna, Italy. The two initially planned for the band to be totally improvisation-based with an open lineup. After encouragement from members of their local music scene to become a band and tour, they decided to do so in order to play with Cock ESP, an extreme noise band from Minneapolis. Since, the pair have released eight full-length albums on a variety of international record labels including Load Records, Dio Drone, Bar La Muerte, and Supernatural Cat, among others. The origin of the band's name, OvO, stems from using a piece of the Italian word "nuovo", or new, which creates a palindrome. Decibel Magazine summarizes OvO's 2016 album, Creatura, as "making rhythmic, layered, sludgy noise" and a "David Lynch dance party". The duo has toured extensively across the world, playing over 1000 shows in varied locations including Europe, Asia, North America, and Mexico.
