Aristokrat Records is a Nigerian record label owned by The Aristokrat Group. [1] The label operates as a subsidiary of The Aristokrat Group, an African Media & Entertainment company. It units includes; Aristokrat 360, Aristokrat Publishing, and Aristokrat Lifestyle. On 11 May 2020, Universal Music France announced its partnership with Aristokrat Records, [2] under the watch of The Aristokrat Group, as the label will now distribute under its label services Caroline France, [3] and publish under Universal Music Publishing Group. As the joint partnership will also help discover and develop exciting new African talent, giving artistes and songwriters the opportunity to reach global audiences with support from Universal Music Group of companies around the world; says Piriye in an interview with This Day. [4]

The label is home to recording acts, such as Jujuboy Star, T’neeya, and Ria Sean. It also houses producer Kel-P, and Saszy Afroshii; a disc jockey DJ Bally, [6] who also signed a management deal with Aristokrat 360 in 2018. Artists formerly signed to the label, include Burna Boy, LeriQ, Kamar, Mojeed, Ozone, Pucado, and Dj Consequence, who served as the first official disc jockey signed to the label. Ariyike Owolagba was their erstwhile director of operations.

The label is currently headed by Enei Apulu Isokrari as CEO and Joseph Dike Abiagom as President/ Label manager

History

Aristokrat Records was founded in 2010 by Piriye Isokrari, under the entertainment company, The Aristokrat Group. It operates as a part of 960 Music Group, [1] a Nigerian music and entertainment company, is known for acquiring forty percent stake in Aristokrat Records. Piriye Isokrari, signed Afrobeats artist, Burna Boy in 2012, with alternative Afrobeat record producer LeriQ. In 2014, Piriye, signed Kamar, Mojeed, Ozone, and Pucado. In 2015, he signed DJ Consequence, [7] and T’neeya, joined in 2018, with a worldwide deal. [8] [9] On 13 November 2020, the label unveiled the signing of Jujuboy Star to Aristokrat Records, with a distribution deal with Caroline France. [10] On 6 June 2021, the label unveiled Ria Sean. [11]

Artistokrat divisions

Aristokrat 360

The Aristokrat Group founded Aristokrat 360, under Aristokrat Records in 2018, as a division for artist management for Aristokrat. In June 2018, DJ Bally signed a management deal with Aristokrat 360. [12] In 2020, Seyi Shay, [13] Saszy Afroshii, [14] TMXO, [15] and DJ Obi, [16] signed a management deal with Aristokrat 360.

Aristokrat Publishing

The Aristokrat Group, and Universal Music Publishing France founded Aristokrat Publishing, under Aristokrat Records via Universal Music France in 2020, as its division for music publishing in Africa. Same year, Saszy Afroshii signed a publishing deal with Aristokrat Publishing, [14] and Seyi Shay joined her in 2021 via Universal Music Publishing Group. [17]

The Aristokrat Group, founded Aristokrat Lifestyle, under Aristokrat Records in 2019, as its division for label branding, and merchandising.

Departures

Burna Boy

Burna Boy's departure surfaced after his two years deal with Aristokrat expired in 2014, [18] during his stay with the label, he released and promoted, various projects, and singles including "Like To Party", which was his breakthrough single, and the lead single from his debut studio album L.I.F.E in 2013, exclusively produced by LeriQ, and Piriye Isokrari.

The label's inception came to fruition following the closure of Mo' Hits Records, a record label owned by the aforementioned producer and D'banj. Tiwatope Savage, known professionally as Tiwa Savage(listen), is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress who has been called the Queen of Afrobeats. Born in Isale Eko, she relocated to London at the age of 11 for her secondary education. Five years later, she began her music career doing backup vocals for artists such as George Michael and Mary J. Blige. After participating in the UK edition of The X Factor and graduating from Berklee College of Music, Savage signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing in 2009. Inspired by the growth of the Nigerian music industry, Savage moved back to Nigeria and signed with Mavin Records in 2012. She made an appearance on the label's 2012 compilation album Solar Plexus.

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, known professionally as Wizkid, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. A prominent figure in the modern-day Afrobeats music scene, Wizkid is regarded as one of the biggest and most influential African artists of all time. He began recording music at the age of 11 and released a collaborative album with the Glorious Five (5), a group he and a couple of his church friends formed. In 2009, Wizkid signed a record deal with Banky W's Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E). He later rose to the limelight after releasing "Holla at Your Boy", the lead single from his debut studio album, Superstar (2011), which also spawned the singles "Tease Me/Bad Guys" and "Don't Dull".

Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, known by his stage name Iyanya, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He rose to fame after winning the first season of Project Fame West Africa, and is best known for his hit single "Kukere". He released his debut studio album My Story in 2009; it was supported by the singles "No Time" and "Love Truly". Iyanya co-founded the record label Made Men Music Group with Ubi Franklin in 2011. His second studio album, titled Desire, was released in February 2013. It supported by the singles "Kukere", "Ur Waist", "Flavour", "Sexy Mama", and "Jombolo". He won the Artist of the Year award at The Headies 2013. In October 2016, Iyanya announced on Instagram that he signed a record deal with Mavin Records. Few months prior, he signed a management deal with Temple Management Company. He first announced his intentions to leave Made Men Music Group in July 2016.

Deborah Oluwaseyi Joshua, known professionally as Seyi Shay, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress. In 2008, she became the lead singer for the now defunct pop girl group From Above. The group signed a recording deal with Sony's Columbia Records and was managed by Mathew Knowles' Music World Entertainment company. In November 2013, Shay signed an endorsement deal with telecommunications service provider Etisalat. In July 2015, she signed a record deal with Island Records. In 2015, she signed a two-year endorsement deal with Pepsi. Shay released her debut studio album Seyi or Shay in November 2015. It was supported by the promotional singles "Irawo", "Ragga Ragga", "Right Now" and "Murda", featuring Patoranking and Shaydee. Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie, better known by his stage name Patoranking, is a Nigerian reggae-dancehall singer and songwriter. Born and raised in Ijegun-Egba Satellite Town, Patoranking hails from Onicha, Ebonyi State. He started his music career doing underground collaborations, with artists such as XProject, Konga, Slam and Reggie Rockstone. He signed a record deal with K-Solo's Igberaga Records in 2010, releasing "Up in D Club" under the outfit. Patoranking became a protégé of Dem Mama Records after collaborating with Timaya on his song "Alubarika". Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu , known professionally as Burna Boy, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer. He rose to stardom in 2012 after releasing "Like to Party", the lead single from his debut studio album L.I.F.E (2013). In 2017, Burna Boy signed with Bad Habit/Atlantic Records in the United States and Warner Music Group internationally. His third studio album Outside (2018) marked his major-label debut.

Oluseye Desmond Sodamola, professionally known as Spinall, is a Nigerian disc jockey, record producer, songwriter, label executive, and media personality. He first gained prominence in 2004, while working as a radio DJ at Raypower 100.5 FM, Spinall studied at Tenstrings Music Institute. He later joined Industry Nite where he promoted underground talents at the weekly platform. He was the official DJ to Wande Coal while he was affiliated with Mavin Records. He created a style edge to his outfit known as TheCAP, tracing his roots back to his culture. TheCAP, which fans tags as "TheCrazyAzzParty" has since then been his brand power and identity. Prior to April 2021, he went by the stage name DJ Spinall, and started an Afromix series on Apple Music, on 15 April 2021. and hosted a television show, known as Smirnoff Infamous Mix on MTV Base, Soundcity TV with a podcast series launched on Audiomack and various radio stations in Nigeria. Eric Isaac Utere, known professionally as LeriQ, is a Nigerian record producer and songwriter. He is currently signed to Spaceship Records, through Spaceship Collective. He achieved recognition for his work on Burna Boy's 2012 single Like To Party, and went on to produce the singer's debut album L.I.F.E (2013), and Twice as Tall (2020), which earned him an award at the 63rd Grammy ceremony.

Hart Idawarifagha Ishmael, known professionally as Idahams, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer. He secured a record deal with Grafton Entertainment in 2016 and joined the Universal Music Nigeria roaster in 2019. Idahams made his first break in 2018 through the song "God Can Bless Anybody" by Mr 2Kay which he wrote and also featured on, the song topped the ITunes Chart barely a week after release.

Udoma Peter Kelvin Amba popularly known by his trademark It's Kel-P Vibes is a Nigerian record producer, singer and songwriter. He is best known for producing and co-writing the Grammy nominated world album African Giant in 2019. He is currently signed to Aristokrat Records, and Universal Music France, with a management deal with Jones Worldwide. Kel-P was credited by OkayAfrica, as one of the key figure who have helped take Afrobeats to new heights.
