Arka Gdynia is a Polish professional women's basketball club based in Gdynia. With 13 Polish Championships and 10 Polish Cups won (as of 2022), it is one of the country's most accomplished women's basketball clubs. It plays in the Energa Basket Liga Kobiet, the highest division in Poland. [1]

History

It was founded in 1946 in the city of Gdańsk as Spójnia Gdańsk. In 1992 the club moved from Gdańsk to Gdynia and changed the name to Bałtyk Gdynia. Then it changed its name several times. From 2001 till 2010 the name of the club was Lotos Gdynia after its titular sponsor Grupa Lotos S.A. From 2014 until 2018 the name was Basket 90 Gdynia. Since 2018, the club has been called Arka Gdynia.

Lechia Gdańsk is a Polish football club based in Gdańsk. The club was founded in 1945 by people expelled from Lwów, who were supporters of Poland's oldest football team Lechia Lwów, founded in 1903. The club's name comes from Lechia, a poetic name for Poland, and is a continuation of the name used by the club based in Lwów. In their early years, Lechia enjoyed some success, most notably finishing third in the Polish top division, before spending decades in the second and third tiers. Polska Liga Koszykówki (PLK) is a professional men's club basketball league in Poland. It constitutes the first and highest-tier level of the Polish league pyramid. The winning team of the final round are crowned the Polish Champions of that season. It began in 1947–48, with the name of I Liga, and was originally organized by the Polish Basketball Federation. The league changed to its current form, beginning with the 1997–98 season, after the Polska Liga Koszykówki SA, PLK SA took control over the league. In 2000–01 season the league turned professional.

The "Tricity Derby" is the name given to describe football matches between Arka Gdynia and Lechia Gdańsk, the two biggest teams in the Tricity area. The derby splits the Tricity area, with Arka representing Gdynia, the northern part of the Tricity, while Lechia represent Gdańsk which covers the southern part of the Tricity.

Lechia Gdańsk was a Polish multi-sports club based in Gdańsk, Poland. Formed in 1945 the club held many different sections until 2002 when the teams started to operate as their own organisations. While run as their own organisations now, many of the teams that were part of the singular sports club often still hold the name Lechia.
