Around Brazil is a solo piano album by Simon Nabatov. It was recorded in 2005 and released by ACT Music.
The album of solo piano performances by Nabatov was recorded in September 2005. [1] All of the tracks were recorded at the Rainbow Studio in Oslo, except for "Partita de Março", which was recorded in Cologne. [1] The album was produced by Siegfried Loch. [1]
Nabatov plays prepared piano on "Depois que o Ilê passar". [2] "Valsa de Pôrto Das Caixas" is a delicate waltz by Antônio Carlos Jobim. [3] On "Partita de Março", the formal theme gradually emerges, "almost like the sculptor finding the form that is already present in the uncut stone." [4] It quotes Jobim's "Waters of March" and Bach. [2]

Around Brazil was released in Germany by ACT Music on 26 May 2006. [1] It was the fifth in their Piano Works series. [1] The Penguin Guide to Jazz described it as "a quite extraordinary essay in modern pianism [...] he takes each piece out into areas of creative improvisation that no one else would have thought of". [4] They also highlighted the extreme separation of bass and treble in the recording. [4] The MusicWeb reviewer wrote that, "If you care about good jazz – or good music of any kind – you need to buy this CD." [5]
Bossa nova is a relaxed style of samba developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is mainly characterized by a "different beat" that altered the harmonies with the introduction of unconventional chords and an innovative syncopation of traditional samba from a single rhythmic division. The "bossa nova beat" is characteristic of a samba style and not of an autonomous genre. The bossa nova wave became popular around the world; this increased popularity helped to renew samba and contributed to the modernization of Brazilian music in general.
Antônio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim, also known as Tom Jobim, was a Brazilian composer, pianist, guitarist, songwriter, arranger, and singer. Considered one of the great exponents of Brazilian music, Jobim internationalized bossa nova and, with the help of important American artists, merged it with jazz in the 1960s to create a new sound, with popular success. As a result, he is sometimes known as the "father of bossa nova".

Getz/Gilberto is an album by American saxophonist Stan Getz and Brazilian guitarist João Gilberto, featuring pianist and composer Antônio Carlos Jobim, who also composed many of the tracks. It was released in March 1964 by Verve Records. The album features the vocals of Astrud Gilberto on two tracks, "Garota de Ipanema" and "Corcovado". The artwork was done by artist Olga Albizu. Getz/Gilberto is a jazz and bossa nova album and includes tracks such as "Desafinado", "Corcovado", and "Garota de Ipanema". The last received a Grammy Award for Record of the Year and started Astrud Gilberto's career. "Doralice" and "Para Machucar Meu Coração" strengthened Gilberto's and Jobim's respect for the tradition of pre-bossa nova samba.
Dorival Caymmi was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, actor, and painter active for more than 70 years, beginning in 1933. He contributed to the birth of Brazil's bossa nova movement, and several of his samba pieces, such as "Samba da Minha Terra", "Doralice" and "Saudade da Bahia", have become staples of música popular brasileira (MPB). Equally notable are his ballads celebrating the fishermen and women of Bahia, including "Promessa de Pescador", "O Que É Que a Baiana Tem?", and "Milagre". Caymmi composed about 100 songs in his lifetime, and many of his works are now considered to be Brazilian classics. Both Brazilian and non-Brazilian musicians have covered his songs.
Gal Maria da Graça Costa Penna Burgos, known professionally as Gal Costa ( ), was a Brazilian singer of popular music. She was one of the main figures of the tropicalia music scene in Brazil in the late 1960s and appeared on the acclaimed compilation Tropicália: ou Panis et Circencis (1968). She was described by The New York Times as "one of Brazil's greatest singers."

João Donato de Oliveira Neto was a Brazilian jazz and bossa nova pianist as well as a trombonist from Rio Branco. This influence would manifest itself in many of his compositions, piano, and trombone playing. Bossa Nova is a 2004 Brazilian jazz album by jazz guitarist John Pizzarelli, who is typically known for his swing guitar skills. While not Brazilian, he has always enjoyed the music and therefore wanted to record this album. Some of the selections are penned by Tom Jobim, such as the classic tune "The Girl From Ipanema".
"Samba de uma Nota Só", known in English as "One Note Samba", is a bossa nova and jazz standard song composed by Antônio Carlos Jobim with Portuguese lyrics by Newton Mendonça. Leny de Andrade Lima, known professionally as Leny Andrade, was a Brazilian singer and musician. Both Andrade's first and last names are sometimes misspelled in English as "Lenn", "Leni", and "Adrade". She had several hits on the Brazilian charts.
