Arun Kumar Aravind is an Indian film director, editor and producer who works predominantly in Malayalam cinema.

Biography

Arun Kumar Aravind, was better known as the editor of director Priyadarshan, owns to his credit a span of 10 years' experience as a film editor. Arun, who hails from Thiruvananthapuram, had done his schooling in St. Thomas Residential School, graduated from M.G. College, Thiruvananthapuram with a B.SC in Physics and later moved to Chennai to master Visual Effects from Pentamedia. He started his career as visual effect artist with Pentamedia [1]

Arun Kumar Aravind has been director Priyadarshan's, [2] principal editor from Vettam (2004) onwards before he turned to filmmaking with Cocktail . [3] He edited Priyadarshan's Tamil film Kanchivaram which got National Film Award for the Best Film in 2008. He had also worked with other well- known directors like T. K. Rajeev Kumar, Shaji Kailas, Suresh Krishna. [4]

Arun was nominated for Shantharam Award and National Award for best editing (Kancheevaram). [5] Arun is the winner of 2011 Asianet Ujala Film Award & Mathrubhumi-Kalyan Film Award for the Best Editor. [6]

Family

He has a daughter, Arsha Nayar. [7]

Kilukkam (transl. Jingle) is a 1991 Indian Malayalam-language comedy drama film directed by Priyadarshan and written by Venu Nagavalli. The story set in Ooty revolves around tourist guide Joji (Mohanlal) and photographer Nishchal. They happen to meet a lavish tourist Nandini (Revathi), whom they bet their fortunes on. It also stars Thilakan, Innocent, K. B. Ganesh Kumar, Sukumari, and Sharat Saxena, with Murali and Jagadish making cameo appearances. The music was composed by S. P. Venkatesh. Kilukkam was released on 15 August 1991. The film was the highest-grossing Malayalam film at that time and ran for more than 365-days at the theaters. Kilukkam won five Kerala State Film Awards, including Best Actor for Mohanlal, Second Best Actor for Jagathy Sreekumar, Best Editor for N. Gopalakrishnan, and Best Cinematographer for S. Kumar. The film is regarded as one of the best comedy films of Malayalam cinema. It was remade in Telugu as Allari Pilla and in Hindi as Muskurahat by Priyadarshan himself. Later, the film had a sequel Kilukkam Kilukilukkam (2006). The movie was reported to have been inspired by the 1953 American movie Roman Holiday.

Left Right Left is a 2013 Indian Malayalam-language political drama film, directed by Arun Kumar Aravind and written by Murali Gopy. Oraalppokkam is a 2014 Malayalam film written and directed by Sanalkumar Sasidharan. It is the first Malayalam movie that has been produced through online crowdfunding. This is an initiative of Kazhcha Chalachithra Vedi, a film society movement based in Thiruvananthapuram. Kazhcha has a history of producing short movies with the financial contribution from film lovers. Oraalppokkam is the fourth venture of Kazhcha. It is claimed that Oraalppokkam will be copyleft after five years from the date of release.

Ozhivu Divasathe Kali is a 2015 Indian Malayalam indie drama film directed by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, based on the short story of the same name by Unni R. The film follows five middle-aged men who get together for a booze party during an election holiday in Kerala. It won the 46th Kerala State Film Award for Best Film. The film was included in The Hindu's top 25 Malayalam films of the decade and is widely regarded as one of the defining movies of the Malayalam New Wave.

<i>Oppam</i> 2016 film by Priyadarshan

Oppam (transl. Along) is a 2016 Indian Malayalam-language crime thriller film directed by Priyadarshan from a story by Govind Vijayan. The film, produced by Antony Perumbavoor for Aashirvad Cinemas, stars Mohanlal and Samuthirakani. The songs were composed by the group 4 Musics, while the score was composed by Ron Ethan Yohann. The cinematography and editing were handled by N. K. Ekambaram and M. S. Ayyappan Nair and the film is influenced by the basic concept of the 2011 Korean film Blind and the English film Cape Fear.
