Aryaman Birla (born 9 July 1997) is an Indian businessman and seventh-generation scion of the Birla family. [1] He is a director of Aditya Birla Management Corporation, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail, Grasim Industries, and Hindalco. [2] [3]

He is a founder of Aditya Birla Ventures, the venture capital arm of the Aditya Birla Group, and Aditya Birla New Age hospitality (ABNAH), the hospitality arm. He is also a former cricketer. [4] [5] [6]

Early life and education

He was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra to Kumar Mangalam Birla, an Indian industrialist and chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, and Neerja Birla. He has two sisters, Ananya Birla and Advaitesha Birla. [7]

He completed his schooling in Mumbai. He pursued a degree in commerce through distance learning from the University of Mumbai. He later earned an MBA from Harvard Business School. [8] [9] [10]

Sports career

Birla made his first-class cricket debut for Madhya Pradesh in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy on 25 November 2017. [11] In January 2018, he was bought by Rajasthan Royals in the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. [12] In November 2018, he scored his maiden century in first-class cricket in his third match, a defensive innings which helped Madhya Pradesh secure a draw against Bengal. [13] [14] In December 2019, he took an "indefinite sabbatical" from cricket after suffering from anxiety related to the sport. [15] [16] He had been released by Rajasthan the previous month following a number of injuries. [17]

Birla made a total of nine first-class and four List A appearances, all for Madhya Pradesh. He scored 414 first-class runs, making a single century and a half-century. [18]

Business career

Birla holds director positions in Grasim Industries, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail, Aditya Birla Management Corporation (P) Ltd., and Hindalco. He is a member of the advisory board of Atlas SkillTech University. [19] [20]

He founded Aditya Birla New Age Hospitality, a company involved in operating and managing food and beverage ventures. [21] The company operates private members club Jolie's, [22] dining chain Ode, [23] [24] Awadhi restaurant Waarsa, [25] [26] social gathering space Bay 21, and Japanese izakaya concept Supa San. [27] [28]

In 2022, he established Aditya Birla Group's venture capital business, Aditya Birla Ventures, which invests in early-stage companies from pre-Series A to Series B. [29] [30]
