Personal life and education
Asha Sinha was born as Asha Thampan in Kottayam, Kerala, India to PK Thampan, a Chartered Accountant working for the Kerala State Electricity Board and Smt. Valsamma Thampan, a house maker. She did her schooling from the Holy Angel's Convent Trivandrum and completed her graduation and Post-Graduation from the Government College for Women, Thiruvananthapuram.
After a brief stint of Teaching in All Saints College, Thiruvananthapuram and S. N. College, Kannur, she qualified and joined the General Insurance Corporation of India as a Direct Recruit Asst. Administrative. She left the GIC to join the Indian Police Service in the year 1982. She met her future spouse Sanjoy Sinha at the General Insurance Company who also cleared the Civil Services in the year 1983 and joined the Indian Customs. They have two children: Abhishek Sinha, an advocate and Vaishnavi Sinha, a journalist.
Career
Asha Sinha joined the Indian Police Service in 1982 and has served the country in several capacities for almost 34 years. She has served the Union Central Government and also the State governments of Maharashtra, Bihar and Jharkhand.
As an IPS Officer she held various positions Asst. Superintendent of Police, Patna. Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Sitamarhi, Bihar, S.P, C.I.D, Bihar. After her Services were loaned to the Government of Maharashtra, she served as Chief Editor, Dakshata and thereafter for three years she was posted in the Anti-Corruption Bureau, DCP-I, Greater Mumbai.
After completing her State to State Deputation with the Government of Maharashtra, she returned to the parent cadre. Thereafter she was selected for deputation to C.I.S.F and was posted as Commandant, C.I.S.F, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, a sensitive defence installation in the year 1992, thereby earning the distinction of becoming the First Lady Commandant of any Para-Military Force in India. She later held the posts of Group Commandant, C.I.S.F looking after the security of large Public Sector Undertakings of Pimpri, Nava Sheva Port, Raigad.
After being allotted Jharkhand Cadre, she held several important assignments for the State including D.I.G. (Special Branch), D.I.G (H.R), Inspector General (C.I.D), After promotion assignments held by her were Inspector General (Training), Addtl. Director General (Special Branch), Addtl Director General (C.I.D), After promotion to the Highest Ranks she held the positions of Director General and Commandant General (Home Guard and Fire Services) and Director General (Training).

Director general of police (DGP) is a rank in the Indian Police Service, held by the highest ranking police officer in a State or a Union Territory of India, typically heading the state or the UT police force. The DGP is appointed by the cabinet and holds a three-star rank.
Nikhil Kumar is a former IPS officer-turned politician hailing from Bihar who was Governor of Nagaland from 2009 to 2013 and Governor of Kerala from 2013 to 2014. One of country's well knownIPS officers of 1963 batch from the AGMUT Cadre Kumar also served as DGP of the National Security Guards, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Railway Protection Force and Commissioner of Delhi Police. He was elected member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India from 2004 to 2009, representing the Aurangabad constituency in Bihar as a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party. He also served as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Information Technology.
Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) is a special police force in several states of India including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. In Maharashtra, it is headed by senior of the Indian Police Service. The squad has stopped several terrorist attacks in the country including 1991 Lokhandwala Complex shootout & 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

Anti-Bihari sentiment refers to discrimination against the migrant people of the State of Bihar. Bihar had slower economic growth than the rest of India in the 1990s which led to Biharis migrating to other parts of India in search of opportunities. Bihari migrant workers have been subject to a growing degree of hatred by the locals of those states because of their stereotyping as criminals and traitors. Moreover, the Biharis have been victimized due to the growing anti-Hindi imposition sentiment in non-Hindi states owing to the Central government agencies excluding regional languages in many national exams and services.

Jharkhand Police is headed by Director General of Police and headquartered in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Jharkhand police have 4 levels of Joining. The Top positions are filled by Indian Police Service Officers recruited by the Union Public Service Commission. The Next Level of Recruitment is at Class II Level via D.S.P Rank recruited by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission. Non-Gazetted officers are recruited at the sub inspector level by the Jharkhand Subordinate Service Commission. Other posts are filled by conducting recruitment rallies or direct recruitment examinations. The Jharkhand Police has nearly a Strength of about 149 IPS Officers. Against this sanctioned strength the State has only 100 IPS Officers allotted to it as on 2015 by the Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA). Jharkhand is among the top Indian states for total recruitment. The current DGP of Jharkhand Police is Niraj Sinha.
Ranjit Sinha was an Indian police officer and was the former Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He was the Director General of Police of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Director General of the Railway Protection Force before joining as the CBI Director in December 2012 for a two-year tenure. He has also served in senior positions in the CBI in Patna and Delhi.
Rajvardhan Sinha is an Indian Police Service officer. In 2013 he was serving as additional commissioner economic offences wing, Mumbai. In 2015 he was appointed as the Joint Commissioner of Police of Nagpur, Maharashtra.In 2018 he was appointed as the Joint Commissioner of Police Economic Offences Wing Mumbai and is now presently posted as Special Inspector General of Police Maharashtra
Sunit Kumar, is a retired Indian Police Service (I.P.S.) officer of Bihar cadre in India, currently serving as Chairman of Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) in the state of Bihar. He has also served as Director General of Police in the state of Bihar retiring from service in November 2015. He belongs to the I.P.S. batch of 1980. He has also served as Director of Bihar Police Academy and Chairman of the Bihar Central Selection Board of Constable (CSBC).
Aparna Kumar is an Indian mountaineer. She was awarded the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award in 2018 for land adventure by the President of India.
Bihar Police Academy is the civil service institute for training of Bihar Police Service Officers and Bihar Police in the state of Bihar. The academy's new campus is located in Rajgir.
Rajeev Kumar is a former Director General of Police of the state of Jharkhand. He held highly responsible positions during his career. He is a 1981 batch IPS officer. He was appointed as the DGP Jharkhand in the year 2013 and served for two years thereafter. In the year 1997, he was awarded the President's Police Medal for Meritorious services and in the year 2014, he was also awarded the President's Police Medal for Distinguished services.
Pramod Kumar Thakur or P. K. Thakur, is a retired Indian Police Service (I.P.S.) officer of Bihar state in India, currently serving as Information commissioner in the state of Bihar. He served as Director General of Police of Bihar Police from June 2014 until his retirement in February 2018. He belongs to the I.P.S. batch of 1980. He has also served as Director General in Bihar. He was awarded with National Security Guard Disc for his outstanding work in the Central Police Organization as Inspector General (Administration). He was appointed on the post of Information commissioner of Bihar State Information Commission in October 2018.
Anjana Sinha is an Indian Police Service 1990-batch officer from Andhra Pradesh-cadre. She is currently on Government of India deputation to Central Industrial Security Force at the rank of Inspector General and serves as the director of National Industrial Security Academy, Hyderabad.
Satya Narayan Pradhan better known as S.N. Pradhan or Satya Pradhan is the current Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau and an IPS officer of 1988 batch from Jharkhand cadre.
Commissioners of Police in India are IPS officers who head the police force in a police commissionerate. A police commissionerate can combine several adjoining districts under it. A Police Commissioner holds higher executive powers than those available to a Superintendent of Police (SP) or Senior SP (SSP) as in-charge of the police force of a district. Commissioner of Police (CP) is a post that can be held by an IPS officer of the rank SP and above, depending upon the sanction provided by the respective state government.
