Ashok Sawhny (born 1937) is bilingual Indian poet, film producer and businessman. [1] [2] He is founder and President of Monarch International (established 1978), [3] an international trading company with offices in several countries. [4]

Early life

Sawhny was born in the year 1937 in Lahore, Pakistan. He attended Modern School, New Delhi followed by St. Stephen's College, Delhi

Career

Sawhny worked with Indian Industry till 1977, before starting with his own company, Monarch International in 1978,. [5] trading internationally with offices in several countries. [4] He has also critically acclaimed film, Listen Amaya (2013), starring Farooq Shaikh and Deepti Naval. [6]

Ashok sawhney has penned 13 solo poetry books so far. [7] He has been published in anthologies alongside A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Gulzar, Ruskin Bond, Deepti Naval, Shashi Tharoor, Irshad Kamil, and Kapil Sibal. [8]

Ashok Singhal

Ashok Singhal was the international working president of the Hindu organisation Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) for over 20 years and in charge of the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi movement. He was replaced in the VHP in December 2011 following a long bout of diminishing physical health. Succeeded by Praveen Togadia, Singhal suffered ill-health but was working till a month before his death.

Mah Laqa Bai Indian Poet

Mah Laqa Bai, born Chanda Bibi, and sometimes referred to as Mah Laqa Chanda, was an Indian 18th century Urdu poet, courtesan and philanthropist based in Hyderabad. In 1824, she became the first female poet to have a diwan of her work, a compilation of Urdu Ghazals named Gulzar-e-Mahlaqa, published posthumously. She lived in a period when Dakhini was making its transition into the highly Persianized Urdu. Her literary contributions provide insight on such linguistic transformations in southern India. She was an influential female courtesan of the Deccan; the Nizam, ruler of Hyderabad, appointed her to the omarah, and as a close affiliate at the court. In 2010, her memorial in Hyderabad, that houses her tomb, was restored using funds donated by the Federal government of the United States.

The Hindu Literary Prize or The Hindu Best Fiction Award, established in 2010, is an Indian literary award sponsored by The Hindu Literary Review which is part of the newspaper The Hindu. It recognizes Indian works in English and English translation. The first year, 2010, the award was called The Hindu Best Fiction Award. Starting in 2018 a non-fiction category was included.

K. Srilata

K. Srilata is an Indian poet, fiction writer, translator and academic based in Chennai. Her poem, In Santa Cruz, Diagnosed Home Sick won the First Prize in the All India Poetry Competition in 1998. She has also been awarded the Unisun British Council Poetry Award (2007) and the Charles Wallace fellowship for a writing residency (2010).
