Dr. Irshad Kamil (born 5 September 1971) is an Indian poet and lyricist. [1] His songs appear in Bollywood films including Jab We Met , Chameli , Love Aaj Kal , Rockstar , Laila Majnu , Aashiqui 2 , Raanjhanaa , Highway , Tamasha , Jab Harry Met Sejal , Kabir Singh , Dunki and Love Aaj Kal .

Dr. Irshad has been nominated and won numerous prestigious awards for his lyrics in song-writing. He has won dozens of awards of Best Lyricist, the Film Fare Award, IIFA and Zee Cine Awards to name a few. [2]

Personal life

Kamil was born as the seventh child to his parents in Malerkotla, and belongs to a Punjabi Muslim family. [3] He studied journalism at the Panjab University, followed by postgraduate and PhD degrees in Hindi. [3]

Raanjhanaa is the soundtrack album, composed by A. R. Rahman of the 2013 Hindi film of the same name, directed by Anand L. Rai and starring Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol in the lead roles. The film is produced by Krishika Lulla under the banner Eros International. The lyrics of the original version were written by Irshad Kamil whereas the Tamil lyrics were written by poet Vairamuthu. The 7th Mirchi Music Awards, presented by the Radio Mirchi, honoured the best of Hindi music from the year 2014. The ceremony was held on 26 February 2015 at the Yash Raj Studios, Mumbai and was hosted by Aditya Narayan and Karishma Tanna. There were many performances, including those by Palak Muchhal, Usha Uthup, Benny Dayal, Shankar Mahadevan and Shruti Pathak. CityLights won a leading three awards. 2 States was awarded the Album of the Year, while "Zehnaseeb" from Hasee Toh Phasee won Song of the Year award. The show was broadcast on 22 March 2015 on Zee TV.

The 11th Mirchi Music Awards, presented by Indian FM radio station Radio Mirchi, honoured the best music professionals of Hindi language Indian films of 2018. The ceremony was held at the Dome at the National Sports Club of India, Mumbai on 16 February 2019 and was hosted by Indian singer and actor Sonu Nigam. The event included live music performances by Badshah, Neha Kakkar, Meet Bros, Jonita Gandhi, Arko, Papon, Shivam Pathak, and Ashmik Patil, the winner of the Smule Mirchi Cover Star. A new award category, "Recreated Song of the Year," was introduced to recognize the many ‘re-creations’ released in 2018. Padmaavat won several awards including Album of the Year and Song of the Year for "Ghoomar." The show was broadcast on 17 March 2019 on Zee TV.

<i>Atrangi Re</i> (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) 2021 soundtrack album by A. R. Rahman

The soundtrack to the 2021 Indian Hindi-language romantic fantasy comedy drama film Atrangi Re directed by Aanand L. Rai features seven songs which were composed by A. R. Rahman and lyrics written by Irshad Kamil. The album featured an assortment of singers, which includes Shreya Ghoshal, Arijit Singh, Haricharan, Daler Mehndi, Shashaa Tirupati, Dhanush, Rashid Ali and Hiral Viradia.

<i>Tiger Zinda Hai</i> (soundtrack) 2017 soundtrack album by Vishal–Shekhar

Tiger Zinda Hai (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is the soundtrack to the 2017 film of the same name directed by Ali Abbas Zafar; a sequel to Ek Tha Tiger (2012), the film stars Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif reprising their roles from the first film. Vishal–Shekhar composed the six-song soundtrack which was produced by Meghdeep Bose and Abhijit Nalani and lyrics are written by Irshad Kamil. The soundtrack was released through YRF Music on 7 December 2017 and became the most-streamed Bollywood soundtrack on YouTube.
