Ismail Darbar is an Indian film score composer, instrumentalist, singer, violinist and music director. He won the National Film Award for Best Music Direction for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999).
Ismail Darbar is from Surat, Gujarat. He worked for several years as a session violinist for leading music directors Laxmikant Pyarelal, Kalyanji Anandji, Bappi Lahiri, Rajesh Roshan, Anand–Milind, Nadeem-Shravan, Jatin–Lalit and A. R. Rahman. [1] Finally, he got a break with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam . Earlier, Darbar had played violin for Jatin–Lalit in the movie Khamoshi: The Musical . [2] Later, his music in Bhansali's Devdas was acclaimed. [3] [4] He did not work with Bhansali after Devdas due to personal differences. [5] After Devdas, Darbar did a few more movies but without much success.[ citation needed ] In 2005, he composed for seven out of 12 tracks for Subhash Ghai's Kisna: The Warrior Poet after A. R. Rahman had left the project mid-way to complete an international assignment. [6] However, Ghai would later say, "The music [of the film] has turned out so well that you can't distinguish an Ismail song from a Rahman one". [7]
Darbar, Jatin–Lalit, Aadesh Shrivastava and Himesh Reshammiya were the four judges on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2005 . [8] Darbar was also a judge for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007 . He was also one of the three judges for Amul Star Voice of India 2 and Bharat Ki Shaan: Singing Star – Season 2 on DD National.[ citation needed ]
In 2007, Darbar released his first private music album, Rasiya Saajan , directed by S Ramachandran.
Darbar also appeared on season three of the reality series Bigg Boss which aired on Colors TV. [9]
In 2018, Darbar co-composed his directorial debut film, Yeh Kaisa Tigdam , with Badshah (Nanu) Khan.
He entered state-level politics by joining BJP Gujarat in 2011. [10]

Darbar became the subject of controversy when he accused A.R. Rahman of having bought the Academy Awards he won for the film Slumdog Millionaire (2008). [12] Rahman denied the allegations, but decided not to file a lawsuit against Darbar. [13]
On 2 February 2015, Darbar, his son Zaid Darbar and their associates were arrested for physically assaulting an assistant director, Prashamit Chaudhury, who had been employed by him earlier. Darbar refused to pay his due salaries and instead settled the score by assaulting his former employee. [14] [15]
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is a 1999 Indian Hindi-language romantic musical film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It was released internationally as Straight From the Heart. The film stars Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Aishwarya Rai. Based on Rashtriyashayar Jhaverchand Meghani's play "Shetal ne Kathe", the film narrates the story of a newlywed man who discovers that his wife is in love with another man and decides to unite them. The film has also been described as a loose adaptation of Maitreyi Devi's Bengali novel Na Hanyate, although the film itself does not credit it as a source.
Taal (transl. Rhythm) is a 1999 Indian Hindi language musical romantic drama film co written, edited, produced and directed by Subhash Ghai. The film stars Aishwarya Rai, Akshaye Khanna and Anil Kapoor in lead roles, while Amrish Puri and Alok Nath feature in supporting roles. It was also dubbed in Tamil as Thaalam. Taal was premiered at the Chicago International Film Festival, the "official selection" at the 2005 Ebertfest: Roger Ebert's Film Festival, and retrospectively at the 45th IFFI in the Celebrating Dance in Indian cinema section.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali is an Indian filmmaker and music composer, who is known for his work in Hindi films. He is the recipient of several awards, including 7 National Film Awards and 12 Filmfare Awards, in addition to a nomination for a BAFTA Award. In 2015, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award.
Kisna: The Warrior Poet is a 2005 Indian Hindi-language period romance film written, edited, produced and directed by Subhash Ghai and starring Vivek Oberoi, Antonia Bernath, and Isha Sharvani. The musical film is set in British India during the tumultuous 1940s when Indian nationalists fighting for the country's independence rose as one, urging the British Raj to leave. It is a love story about two people who are torn between Karma and Dharma. The film has two veteran composers, A. R. Rahman and Ismail Darbar; the lyrics were written by Javed Akhtar. The film marked Amrish Puri's last appearance as he had not signed or acted in any film after it before passing away on 12 January 2005. The film, however, did not perform well at the box office. The film was premiered in the Marché du Film section of the 2005 Cannes Film Festival.
Sharada Krishnamurthy, popularly known as Kavita Krishnamurthy or Kavita Subramaniam, is an Indian playback and classical singer. Devdas is a 2002 Indian Hindi-language period romantic drama film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and produced by Bharat Shah under his banner, Mega Bollywood. It stars Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit in lead roles, with Jackie Shroff, Kirron Kher, Smita Jaykar, and Vijayendra Ghatge in supporting roles. Based on the 1917 novel of the same name by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, the film narrates the story of Devdas Mukherjee (Khan), a wealthy law graduate who returns from London to marry his childhood friend, Parvati "Paro" (Rai). However, the rejection of their marriage by his own family sparks his descent into alcoholism, ultimately leading to his emotional deterioration and him seeking refuge with the golden-hearted courtesan Chandramukhi (Dixit).
Debojit Saha is an Indian playback singer and performer mainly active in Hindi, Bengali and Assamese language films. Saha was the winner of Zee TV singing reality show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2005 and was awarded the 'Voice of India' title. The 6th Screen Awards also The Sixth Annual Screen–Videocon Awards ceremony, presented by Indian Express Group, honored the best Indian Hindi-language films of 1999. The ceremony was held on 23 January 2000 at Andheri Sports Complex, Mumbai, and hosted by Lisa Ray and Cyrus Broacha. The event was telecasted same day on DD National 10:30 PM, and was re-telecasted on 29 January, StarPlus 09:30 PM.
