Asia Cosmopolitan Awards

Asia Cosmopolitan Awards is an international award established by Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) in the context of commemoration of the 1300-year anniversary in 2010 of Heijo-kyo (ancient capital of Japan located in present-day Nara) as the last destination of the ancient Silk Road and one of the first cosmopolitan cities in East Asia. It is awarded to individuals or organizations who have made substantial and significant contributions to the development and enrichment of the East Asian Community in the fields of cultural and economic integration, narrowing the developmental gaps, and establishing sustainably growing societies in the region.

Outline and categories

The Asia Cosmopolitan Awards consists of three prizes: the Grand Prize, the Economic and Social Science Prize, and the Cultural Prize. Other prizes may be added as necessary. Main criteria for selection are as follows.

eminent achievements in scholarly research, business innovation, industrial technology, smart consumption activities, security/safety, social security, politics, philosophy, or other general social sciences

Benedict Richard O'Gorman Anderson (August 26, 1936 – December 13, 2015) was a Chinese-born Anglo-Irish political scientist and historian who lived and taught in the United States. Anderson is best known for his 1983 book Imagined Communities, which explored the origins of nationalism. A polyglot with an interest in southeast Asia, he was the Aaron L. Binenkorb Professor Emeritus of International Studies, Government & Asian Studies at Cornell University. His work on the "Cornell Paper", which debunked the official story of Indonesia's 30 September Movement and the subsequent anti-Communist purges of 1965–1966, led to his expulsion from that country. Benedict Anderson was the elder brother of the historian Perry Anderson.

Richard Thaler

Richard H. Thaler is an American economist and the Charles R. Walgreen Distinguished Service Professor of Behavioral Science and Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. In 2015, Thaler was president of the American Economic Association.

Delhi School of Economics

Delhi School of Economics (DSE), popularly referred to as D School, is a graduate school within the University of Delhi. Widely regarded as one of India's finest academic institutions in social sciences, especially in the discipline of Economics, the Delhi School of Economics is situated in University of Delhi's North Campus in Maurice Nagar. Started in the year 1949, the campus of the Delhi School of Economics houses the University of Delhi's departments of Economics, Sociology, Geography and Commerce, as well as the Ratan Tata Library. Out of the four academic departments, the Departments of Economics, Sociology and Geography come under the Faculty of Social Sciences, while the Department of Commerce comes under the Faculty of Commerce and Business Studies.

Stanley Jeyaraja Tambiah

Stanley Jeyaraja Tambiah was a social anthropologist and Esther and Sidney Rabb Professor (Emeritus) of Anthropology at Harvard University. He specialised in studies of Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Tamils, as well as the anthropology of religion and politics.

Leonid Hurwicz

Leonid "Leo" Hurwicz was a Polish-American economist and mathematician, known for his work in game theory and mechanism design. He originated the concept of incentive compatibility, and showed how desired outcomes can be achieved by using incentive compatible mechanism design. Hurwicz shared the 2007 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his seminal work on mechanism design. Hurwicz was one of the oldest Nobel Laureates, having received the prize at the age of 90.

The Third East Asia Summit was the third meeting of the East Asia Summit (EAS) held in November 2007. The EAS is a pan-Asia forum held annually by the leaders of 16 countries in the East Asian region. EAS meetings are held after annual ASEAN leaders’ meetings.

Mohammad Sadli was a leading Indonesian policy-maker and economist.

Institute of Developing Economies

Institute of Developing Economies is a semi-governmental research institute under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and the largest institute on social science in Japan. Current status is a body of the Japan External Trade Organization. It is located in Kaihin-Makuhari area of Mihama Ward, Chiba City. The President of IDE is Takashi Shiraishi(白石隆), who is the vice president of the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies.

Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia

The Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia or ERIA is an international organization established in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2008 by a formal agreement among Leaders of 16 countries in the East Asian region to conduct research activities and make policy recommendations for further economic integration in the East Asia. ERIA works very closely with both the ASEAN Secretariat and 16 Research Institutes to undertake and disseminate policy research under the three pillars, namely “Deepening Economic Integration”, ”Narrowing Development Gaps”, and “Sustainable Development” and provide analytical policy recommendations to Leaders and Ministers at their regional meetings. ERIA provides intellectual contributions to East Asian Community building and serves as a Sherpa international organization. ERIA ranks 32nd among the world's "Top 85 International Economics Think Tanks" according to the 2016 Global Go To Think Tanks Index Report conducted by University of Pennsylvania.

Kyiv National Linguistic University

Kyiv National Linguistic University is a public university located in Kyiv, Ukraine. It was founded in 1948 as Kyiv State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages. The university is commonly referred to as "In'Yaz" ,which means "foreign languages." Kyiv National Linguistic University was ranked the fourth best Ukrainian university specializing in Social Science and Arts and Humanities in 2012.

Masahiko Aoki was a Japanese economist, Tomoye and Henri Takahashi Professor Emeritus of Japanese Studies in the Economics Department, and Senior Fellow of the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research and Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University. Aoki was known for his work in comparative institutional analysis, corporate governance, the theory of the firm, and comparative East Asian development.

Richard Earl Caves was an American economist, and Professor of Economics at Harvard University. He is known for his work on multinational corporations, industrial organization and the creative industries. He is known within the film economics field as the author of a definitive book on the organization of creative industries.

Ye Tan is a Chinese economist and a research professor at the Institute of Economics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences since 1988. In 2012, she was appointed as an adjunct professor at Peking University School of Economics. She is a member of the NSFC peer councillor, member of the 19th-century Japanese Society for Economic and Social Studies, and vice president of the Chinese Association of historic Economic Thought. She is the director of the Academy of History of Chinese Economic Thought.
