Ataur Rahman (born 18 June 1941) [1] is a Bangladeshi stage and television actor. [2] He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2001 and Independence Award in 2021 by the government of Bangladesh for his contribution to drama. [1] [3]
Rahman earned his master's degree in science in 1964 from the University of Dhaka. [4]
Rahman served as the general secretary and later president of Bangladesh Centre of the International Theatre Institute (BCITI). [5] [6] He is the founder general secretary of the theater troupe Nagorik Natya Sampradaya. [1] He is a former chairman of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation. [1] [7]
Rahman directed over 35 plays including "Roktokorobi", "Banglar Mati Banglar Jol", "Narigon", "Irsha", "Opekkhoman", and "Waiting for Godot". [1] [8]
In August 2019, Rahman was appointed as an Awami League Advisory Council member. [4]
