He was elected mayor of Anchorage in 2015,and reelected in 2018. Berkowitz resigned as mayor of Anchorage in October 2020 after admitting to being in a "consensual,inappropriate messaging relationship" with a reporter.
Sean Randall Parnell is an American attorney and politician who was the tenth governor of Alaska from 2009 to 2014. He succeeded Sarah Palin in July 2009,and was elected governor in his own right in 2010 with 59.06% of the vote,as the largest percentage margin of any Alaska governor since the state's admission into the United States. In 2014,he narrowly lost his bid for re-election and returned to work in the private sector. He is a member of the Republican Party.

The state offers few legal protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity,leaving LGBTQ people vulnerable to discrimination in housing and public accommodations;however,the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Bostock v. Clayton County established that employment discrimination against LGBTQ people is illegal under federal law. In addition,four Alaskan cities,Anchorage,Juneau,Sitka and Ketchikan,representing about 46% of the state population,have passed discrimination protections for housing and public accommodations.

Valerie Nurr'araaluk Davidson is an American politician who briefly served as the 13th lieutenant governor of Alaska,from October to December 2018. She was sworn in after Byron Mallott's abrupt resignation from the post on October 16,2018. In April 2020,Davidson became the 12th president of Alaska Pacific University,the first woman to serve as the university's president. She took a leave of absence from Alaska Pacific University to become interim president of the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium in March 2021. Her presidency of the Consortium became permanent in June of the same year and she resigned from Alaska Pacific University at that time. Davidson later became CEO of the Consortium as well. She left the Consortium in May 2024.

The 2021 Anchorage mayoral election was held on April 6,2021,to elect the mayor of Anchorage,Alaska. As no candidate received at least 45% of the vote in the first round,the two candidates with the highest vote share,Forrest Dunbar and Dave Bronson,advanced to a runoff on May 11. The election was officially nonpartisan. Incumbent independent acting mayor Austin Quinn-Davidson,first appointed to the position in October 2020,was eligible to run for reelection to a full term,but did not run. The deadline to register to vote in the first round was March 7. Mail-in ballots were sent out starting on March 15. On May 21,2021,after a narrow loss,Dunbar conceded the race to Bronson. Bronson was sworn in on July 1.
Forrest Dunbar is an American politician,attorney,and military officer. He is a member of the Alaska Senate,representing East Anchorage District J since 2023. A member of the Democratic Party,he previously served on the Anchorage Assembly from 2016 to 2023. He is a major and Judge Advocate in the Alaska Army National Guard.
David Bronson is an American politician,pilot,and retired Air Force officer. A Republican,he was the 37th mayor of Anchorage,Alaska from 2021 until 2024.
The Anchorage Assembly is the governing body of Anchorage,Alaska. The Assembly has twelve members elected to three-year terms from six districts. It is responsible for creating and approving the city's annual budget,appropriating municipal funding,and managing elections. Seats in the Assembly are officially nonpartisan.
The 2022 Alaska at-large congressional district special election was held on August 16 to fill the seat left vacant after the death of Republican incumbent Don Young. Mary Peltola was elected in a 3-way race against former governor Sarah Palin and Nick Begich III in the election,becoming the first Alaska Native and woman to represent Alaska in the House.
