Austin Quinn-Davidson (born October 29,1979) is an American politician and attorney who served as the acting mayor of Anchorage,Alaska after the resignation of Ethan Berkowitz in October 2020 until the inauguration of Dave Bronson in July 2021. Quinn-Davidson began serving on the Anchorage Assembly in 2018. [1] [2] [3]
Quinn-Davidson was born in Sacramento,California. [4] She earned a Bachelor of Arts in environmental studies from the University of California,Santa Barbara in 2001 and a Juris Doctor from UC Davis School of Law in 2007. [5]
Before serving as a member of the Assembly,Quinn-Davidson was a member of the Anchorage Budget Advisory and Women's Commissions. [6] At the time of her election to the Assembly in 2018,Quinn-Davidson served as the Legal Affairs &Land Transactions Director at Great Land Trust,a non-profit organization based in Southcentral Alaska. While Assembly seats are nonpartisan,Quinn-Davidson has been referred to as a progressive. [7]
In October 2020,incumbent mayor Ethan Berkowitz announced that he had conducted an inappropriate texting relationship with a local television reporter. Berkowitz then resigned from office,effective October 23. Upon the announcement,the Anchorage Assembly was restructured. Quinn-Davidson,who had been serving as vice chair,was selected to serve as chair,placing her first in the mayoral line of succession. [8] [9] [10] When Quinn-Davidson assumed office,she became the first woman and openly-gay person to serve as mayor of Anchorage. [11] [12] She chose not to run for election to a full term as mayor in 2021.
The 2006 Alaska gubernatorial general election took place on November 7,2006. The former mayor of Wasilla,Sarah Palin,defeated incumbent governor Frank Murkowski in the Republican primary,and then went on to defeat former governor Tony Knowles in the general election. Palin became the first governor of the state to be born after Alaskan statehood.

From 1997 to 2007 he was the Alaska State Representative for District 26,serving as the Democratic Party Minority Leader from 1999 to 2007. He was the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor in 2006,for Alaska's at-large congressional district in 2008,and for governor in 2010. He was elected mayor of Anchorage in 2015,and reelected in 2018. Berkowitz resigned as mayor of Anchorage in October 2020 after admitting to being in a "consensual,inappropriate messaging relationship" with a reporter.
Sean Randall Parnell is an American attorney and politician who was the tenth governor of Alaska from 2009 to 2014. He succeeded Sarah Palin in July 2009,and was elected governor in his own right in 2010 with 59.06% of the vote,as the largest percentage margin of any Alaska governor since the state's admission into the United States. In 2014,he narrowly lost his bid for re-election and returned to work in the private sector. He is a member of the Republican Party.
The 2008 United States House of Representatives election in Alaska was held on November 4,2008,to determine who will represent the state of Alaska in the United States House of Representatives. Alaska has one seat in the House,apportioned according to the 2000 United States census. Representatives are elected for two-year terms;whoever was elected would serve in the 111th Congress from January 4,2009,until January 3,2011. The election coincided with the nationwide presidential election. The primary election was held August 26,2008.

Mallott was an Alaska Native leader of Tlingit heritage and the leader of the Kwaash KéKwaan clan. He was the 12th lieutenant governor of Alaska from December 2014 until his resignation on October 16,2018. He also previously served as the mayor of Yakutat,the mayor of Juneau,the president of the Alaska Federation of Natives and the executive director of the Alaska Permanent Fund.

Claman previously served as a member of the Alaska House of Representatives from 2015 until 2023;the acting mayor of Anchorage from in 2009,and a member of the Anchorage Assembly from 2007 until 2010.
Daniel Albert Sullivan is an American businessman and politician who served as the mayor of Anchorage from 2009 to 2015 and on the Anchorage Assembly from 1999 to 2008. The son of Anchorage's longest-serving mayor,George M. Sullivan,he was the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor of Alaska in the 2014 election but he and incumbent Governor Sean Parnell were defeated by the ticket of Independent Bill Walker and Democrat Byron Mallott.

Since 1980,same-sex sexual conduct has been allowed,and same-sex couples can marry since October 2014. The state offers few legal protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity,leaving LGBTQ people vulnerable to discrimination in housing and public accommodations;however,the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Bostock v. Clayton County established that employment discrimination against LGBTQ people is illegal under federal law. In addition,four Alaskan cities,Anchorage,Juneau,Sitka and Ketchikan,representing about 46% of the state population,have passed discrimination protections for housing and public accommodations.

Valerie Nurr'araaluk Davidson is an American politician who briefly served as the 13th lieutenant governor of Alaska,from October to December 2018. She was sworn in after Byron Mallott's abrupt resignation from the post on October 16,2018. In April 2020,Davidson became the 12th president of Alaska Pacific University,the first woman to serve as the university's president. She took a leave of absence from Alaska Pacific University to become interim president of the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium in March 2021. Her presidency of the Consortium became permanent in June of the same year and she resigned from Alaska Pacific University at that time. Davidson later became CEO of the Consortium as well. She left the Consortium in May 2024.

The 2021 Anchorage mayoral election was held on April 6,2021,to elect the mayor of Anchorage,Alaska. As no candidate received at least 45% of the vote in the first round,the two candidates with the highest vote share,Forrest Dunbar and Dave Bronson,advanced to a runoff on May 11. The election was officially nonpartisan. Incumbent independent acting mayor Austin Quinn-Davidson,first appointed to the position in October 2020,was eligible to run for reelection to a full term,but did not run. The deadline to register to vote in the first round was March 7. Mail-in ballots were sent out starting on March 15. On May 21,2021,after a narrow loss,Dunbar conceded the race to Bronson. Bronson was sworn in on July 1.

A member of the Democratic Party,he previously served on the Anchorage Assembly from 2016 to 2023. He is a major and Judge Advocate in the Alaska Army National Guard.
David Bronson is an American politician,pilot,and retired Air Force officer. A Republican,he was the 37th mayor of Anchorage,Alaska from 2021 until 2024.
The Anchorage Assembly is the governing body of Anchorage,Alaska. The Assembly has twelve members elected to three-year terms from six districts. It is responsible for creating and approving the city's annual budget,appropriating municipal funding,and managing elections. Seats in the Assembly are officially nonpartisan.
The 2022 Alaska at-large congressional district special election was held on August 16 to fill the seat left vacant after the death of Republican incumbent Don Young. Mary Peltola was elected in a 3-way race against former governor Sarah Palin and Nick Begich III in the election,becoming the first Alaska Native and woman to represent Alaska in the House.
