The Australian Automobile Association (AAA) is an Australian motoring organisation that lobbies for road users across Australia. This includes advocating for the safe maintenance of land transport networks and increasing transport affordability. [1] [2] It was established in 1924. [3] [4]

International membership

The AAA is a member of the Alliance Internationale de Tourisme (AIT) and the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). [5]

Motor sport

In 1926, the AAA sought authority to administer motor sport in Australia, which was subsequently obtained via the Royal Automobile Club. [12]

Following a decision to focus on its primary role, the association relinquished this authority to the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport, [12] formed in 1953.

It was founded at the Casino Bourgeois in Luxembourg City on 4 August 1898 as the Ligue Internationale des Associations Touristes (LIAT) but changed its name to the Alliance Internationale de Tourisme (AIT) on 30 May 1919.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Segrave Trophy</span> British award

The Segrave Trophy is awarded to the British national who demonstrates "Outstanding Skill, Courage and Initiative on Land, Water and in the Air". The trophy is named in honour of Sir Henry Segrave, the first person to hold both the land and water speed records simultaneously. The award was established by Segrave's wife, Lady Doris, who was "determined to carry on his legacy". The trophy, designed by sculptor Gilbert Bayes, is awarded by the Royal Automobile Club. It has been awarded in most years since 1930; it is not presented if, in the opinion of the committee, no achievement has been sufficient to deserve the award. Past sponsors of the trophy include Castrol, Ford Motor Company and Aston Martin.

The Australian Liberal Students' Federation (ALSF) is an Australian students' political organisation. Founded in 1948, the ALSF carries similar ideology to the Liberal Party of Australia. The Federation works closely with the Liberal Party, however it is an independent organisation that pursues its own policy agenda.

An automobile association, also referred to as a motoring club, motoring association, or motor club, is an organization, either for-profit or non-profit, which motorists can join to enjoy benefits provided by the club relating to driving a vehicle. There is most often an annual membership fee to join. A membership identification card, valid for the time period of membership paid, is typically issued to the member.

Swimming Australia is the peak governing body for competitive swimming in Australia. The body has approximately 100,000 registered members nationally in 1100 clubs across the country, which includes swimmers, coaches, officials, administrators and volunteers. The body oversees the management and development of the sport from the national team at the elite level, the conduct of national and international events, through to grass roots participation.

The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) is a car safety performance assessment programme based in Australia and founded in 1993. ANCAP specialises in the crash testing of automobiles sold in Australia and the publishing of these results for the benefit of consumers. ANCAP provides consumers with transparent advice and information on the level of occupant and pedestrian protection provided by different vehicle models in the most common types of crashes, as well as their ability—through technology—to avoid a crash.

The Royal Automobile Club of Tasmania normally abbreviated to RACT is a motoring club in Tasmania, Australia. The organisation was established in 1923 and now has over 200,000 members. It is a member of the Australian Automobile Association. It provides services such as roadside assistance, vehicle, home and contents insurance, personal and car loans, driver's education and tourism.
