The Austro Engine AE80R is an aircraft Wankel engine that was first run on 8 January 2013 and is under development by Austro Engine of Wiener Neustadt. [1] [2]
Development of the AE80R started in 2010 based on the 41 kW (55 hp) Austro Engine AE50R. The AE80R is intended to power light-sport aircraft, ultralight aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). [1] [2]
The AE80R incorporates dual FADEC-controllers, a lossless lubrication system to reduce oil consumption. It is intended to weigh 27 kg (60 lb) and produce 60 kW (80 hp). [1] [2]
The engine is described as being vibration free, a useful attribute in an engine used for UAVs that can carry sensitive equipment affected by in-flight vibrations. [1] [2]
Data from Pew and Austro Engines [1] [2]
The Wankel engine is a type of internal combustion engine using an eccentric rotary design to convert pressure into rotating motion.
The Mazda Wankel engines are a family of Wankel rotary combustion car engines produced by Mazda.
The Sikorsky Cypher and Cypher II are types of unmanned aerial vehicles developed by Sikorsky Aircraft. They are vertical takeoff and landing aircraft which use two opposing rotors enclosed in a circular shroud for propulsion.
The ASH 26 is an 18 metre Class glider, built of modern fibre reinforced composites. It first flew in 1993. It is manufactured by Alexander Schleicher GmbH & Co. The 'H' indicates this is a design of Martin Heide.
The ASH 30 is a two-seater Open Class glider manufactured by Alexander Schleicher, developed as a replacement for the ASH 25. The Mi version is powered by a 41 kW (55 hp) Wankel engine. The prototype made its maiden flight on 7 April 2011 from Wasserkuppe.
The Hirth HM 506 was a six-cylinder air-cooled inverted inline engine that was developed from the earlier four-cylinder HM 504. The HM 506 was a popular engine for light aircraft of the 1930s to 1940s and powered the Bücker Bü 133A model trainer. The engine featured a cast magnesium alloy crankcase.
The Hirth HM 60 was a four-cylinder inverted air-cooled inline aircraft engine designed in 1923 and first sold in 1924. The engine was of very high quality, and its sales success contributed to Hirth's rapid pre-war expansion. It was a popular engine for light aircraft delivering 80 hp (60 kW) at 2,300 rpm. Later Hirth engines built upon the HM 60's success and provided greater power with many of the same design features.
The Fokker D.VI was a German fighter aircraft built in limited numbers at the end of World War I. The D.VI served in the German and Austro-Hungarian air services.
The ASH 31 is a single seat Open Class glider which can also be flown in the 18 metre class configuration.
The Fisher R-80 Tiger Moth is a Canadian two-seat, conventional landing gear, single engined, biplane kit aircraft designed for construction by amateur builders. The designation indicates that the aircraft is 80% the size of the aircraft that inspired it, the de Havilland Tiger Moth. Fisher Flying Products was originally based in Edgeley, North Dakota, USA but the company is now located in Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada.
The Austro Engine E4 is a liquid-cooled, inline, four-cylinder, four-stroke, aircraft diesel engine. The engine is manufactured by Austro Engine, an Austrian-based company and subsidiary of Diamond Aircraft Industries.
Austro Engine is an Austrian manufacturer of aircraft engines based at Wiener Neustadt in Lower Austria.
The Clerget 7Z was a seven-cylinder rotary aircraft engine of the World War I era designed by Pierre Clerget. First appearing in 1911 it was nominally rated at 80 horsepower (60 kW). 347 examples were jointly built in Britain by Gordon Watney & Co Ltd of Weybridge and Gwynnes Limited of Hammersmith.
The Diamond HK36 Super Dimona is an extensive family of Austrian low-wing, T-tailed, two-seat motor gliders that were designed by Wolf Hoffmann and currently produced by Diamond Aircraft Industries.
The MidWest AE series are lightweight, liquid-cooled, single- and twin-rotor Wankel engines, with dual ignition, designed for light aircraft. They were produced by Mid-West Engines Ltd. at Staverton Airport, Gloucestershire, UK.
The Hewland AE75 is a lightweight aircraft engine that was manufactured in the mid-1980s by Hewland in Maidenhead, United Kingdom. The engine, a two-stroke inverted inline triple of 750 cc (46 cu in) displacement, is liquid-cooled and yields 75 hp (56 kW)
The Silence Twister is a German ultralight designed by Silence Aircraft for amateur construction, either from plans or kits. The prototype first flew on 30 September 2000.
The Austro Engine EA50R is an Austrian aircraft engine, produced by Austro Engine of Wiener Neustadt for use in motorgliders and UAVs.
The Austro Engine AE75R is an Austrian aircraft engine, that was designed and produced by Austro Engine of Wiener Neustadt for use in ultralight aircraft.
The Hirth HM 515 was a four-cylinder air-cooled inverted inline engine, intended to power light aircraft of the 1940s. Due to World War II, demand for the light aircraft to be powered by the HM 515 dried up and only the Siebel Si 202C Hummel was powered by development engines before further work was abandoned.
