Because of the small size of the Icelandic economy and the low cost of public listing, many of the companies traded on the XICE are relatively small and are relatively illiquid.

In August 2020, Liberty Global announced that it will be acquiring Sunrise for $7.4 billion. The transaction was completed on November 11, 2020.
