Professor Aykut Karaman (born 1947) is a Turkish architect [1] and professor of urbanism with at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul.

Biography

Born in 1947 in Eşme, Turkey, Karaman is married and has a daughter.

He received a degree in architecture from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University before moving to study and complete his PhD at the University of Pennsylvania, department of architecture where he specialised in urban design.

Teaching and academic positions, publications

His publications are on theories and cases of urban design, urban regeneration, socio-cultural aspects of mass housing design, historical urban landscape ecological design and urban morphology.

Mimar Sinan also known as Koca Mi'mâr Sinân Âğâ, was the chief Ottoman architect, engineer and mathematician for sultans Suleiman the Magnificent, Selim II and Murad III. He was responsible for the construction of more than 300 major structures, including the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne, the Kanuni Sultan Suleiman Bridge in Büyükçekmece, and the Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge in Višegrad, as well as other more modest projects such as madrasa's, külliyes, and bridges. His apprentices would later design the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul and the Stari Most bridge in Mostar.

The Rüstem Pasha Mosque is an Ottoman mosque located in the Hasırcılar Çarşısı in the Tahtakale neighborhood of the Fatih district of Istanbul, Turkey, near the Spice Bazaar. Named after Rüstem Pasha, who served as Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire under Sultan Suleiman I, it was designed by the Ottoman imperial architect Mimar Sinan and completed in around 1563.

In 2009, the district of Eminönü, which had been a separate municipality located at the tip of the peninsula, was once again remerged into Fatih because of its small population. He founded Hakan Kiran Architecture and Building Services in 1989.
