Azamat Abdullazhanovich Arapbayev (born 1 October 1970) is a Kyrgyz politician, and current member of the Supreme Council of Kyrgyzstan.
Arapbayev was born on 1 October 1970 in the city of Jalal-Abad in Osh Oblast in the Kirgiz SSR, now Kyrgyzstan. In 1993 he graduated from Kyrgyz Agricultural Institute named after K.I. Skryabina [1] with a degree in hydraulic engineering. In 2004 he then completed a degree at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic in international relations. [2]
Arapbayev started work as a deputy director in 1993, as the deputy director of "Osh-Intur", a tourism company. [3] After leaving in 1996, Arapbayev spent the next four years performing the same role in two other companies: the Kyrgyz chapter [3] of Malabar Trading Ltd. between 1996 and 1999, and from 1999 to 2000 at "Talas-Osh". [1]
He was then elected in 2000 to the legislature of Osh Region, serving for five years; between this period he was director of "Osh Aragy" (2000–2002, [3] although his parliamentary record states 2002–2003), chairman of the board at "Altyn-Suu" (2003–2004), general director of "Dannur-Yug", a brickmaker, (2004–2008), and on the year of leaving the legislature, joined as general director of cement-making company "Southern Combine of Building Materials" (2005–2008). [1] Between 2007 and 2008 he was also a deputy in the Osh city legislature. [1]
Arapbayev was elected as deputy for the Supreme Council of Kyrgyzstan in 2008. During his time he served as the chairman of the fuel and energy affairs committee between 2010 and 2012, member of the committee for constitutional legislation, state structure and human rights between 2012 and 2015 [2] and is currently member of the committee for economic and fiscal policy. Arapbayev is married, and has four children. [1] He speaks Kyrgyz, Russian, Turkish and English. [2]
The politics of Kyrgyzstan, officially known as the Kyrgyz Republic, takes place in the framework of a presidential system representative democratic republic, whereby the President is head of state and the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers is head of government. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and parliament. The Economist Intelligence Unit rated Kyrgyzstan a "hybrid regime" in 2019.
Osh is the second-largest city in Kyrgyzstan, located in the Fergana Valley in the south of the country and often referred to as the "capital of the south". It is the oldest city in the country and has served as the administrative center of Osh Region since 1939. The city has an ethnically mixed population of 322,164 in 2021, comprising Uzbeks, Kyrgyz, Russians, Tajiks, and other smaller ethnic groups. It is about 5 km from the Uzbekistan border.
Absamat Masaliyevich Masaliyev was the first Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kirghizia from November 1985 until Kyrgyz independence, and led the Party of Communists of Kyrgyzstan afterwards.
The Supreme Council is the unicameral Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic. It was known as the Supreme Soviet of the Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic until 1991.
Sultan Ibraimovich Ibraimov was a Soviet politician who served as Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic from 22 December 1978 until his assassination in 1980. The slow movement of the investigation created distrust in the Soviet system during a period of intense corruption, and the eventual discovery of the perpetrator's identity as an ethnic Russian ethnonationalist exacerbated ethnic tensions. Since his death, Ibraimov has become an important figure in Kyrgyzstan.

OshTV is the first private television station in Kyrgyzstan, founded by an entrepreneur from Osh, ethnic Uzbek, Khaliljan Khudaiberdiev. It was registered in Osh in March 1991 with the Osh City Council as a small business enterprise under the “Law on the Press and Other Mass Media” of USSR. Its first programs were aired on May 5, 1991.
Japarov Üsönbek uulu Aqılbek is a Kyrgyz politician serving as Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan since 12 October 2021. He replaced Ulukbek Maripov, who had been appointed to the new role by President Sadyr Japarov on 5 May 2021. Aqılbek is also concurrently the Head of the Presidential Administration under President Japarov.
