Abdulaziz Dyab (born 1995) is a Syrian-German [2] actor. His films include Je suis Karl (2021). On television, he is known for his roles in the Netflix series Unorthodox (2020) and the Apple TV+ series Liaison (2023).
Dyab was born in Idlib, northwestern Syria. He grew up in a Muslim family, but does not consider himself religious. [3] His home was often in the firing line of the Syrian civil war. Dyab moved to Aleppo for study, but the war escalated and conditions worsened. In September 2015 at the age of 20, he fled to Germany, where he was granted asylum and eventually settled in Frankfurt an der Oder. He joined a local community theatre group to improve his German-language skills. [4] [5] In 2016, he intended to study mechatronics at Karlsruhe University. [6] Dyab appeared in a 2017 documentary titled I'm Here Now Somehow directed by David Regos. [7]
Dyab made his television debut playing Salim in the 2020 critically acclaimed multilingual Netflix miniseries Unorthodox . [8] This was followed in 2021 by his feature film debut in Christian Schwochow's Je suis Karl as Libyan migrant Yusuf [9] and Anne Zohra Berrached's Copilot as Karim. [10] He also made guest appearances in the ZDF crime dramas SOKO Leipzig and SOKO Potsdam , and the Das Erste anthology series Baltic Crimes, and appeared in the television films Der Beschützer and Bring mich nach Hause.
In 2023, Dyab played Samir Hamza, a hacker, in the British-French thriller series Liaison on Apple TV+. In a 2023 interview with The Upcoming, Dyab stated he was writing a film based on his childhood memories. [11]

The four-part miniseries was created and written by Anna Winger and Alexa Karolinski, and directed by Maria Schrader.
Je suis Karl is a 2021 German-Czech drama film directed by Christian Schwochow from a screenplay by Thomas Wendrich. It concerns itself with a young woman, whose family were victims of a terror attack, and falls in love with the charismatic leader of a right-wing political movement. The film stars Luna Wedler and Jannis Niewöhner.
Liaison is a British-French thriller television series written by Virginie Brac, directed by Stephen Hopkins and starring Vincent Cassel and Eva Green. It premiered on 24 February 2023 on Apple TV+.
Sarah Mardini, alternative spelling Sara Mardini, is a Syrian former competition swimmer, lifeguard and human rights activist. Fleeing her country in 2015 during the Syrian civil war with her sister, Olympic swimmer Yusra Mardini, they pulled their boat with other refugees towards the Mediterranean coast of Greece, saving themselves and the other passengers. Continuing their journey across the Balkans, they reached Berlin, Germany, the same year. She was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine in 2023, alongside her sister.
