Balachandran Gajatheepan is a Sri Lankan Tamil teacher, politician and provincial councillor.
Gajatheepan was educated at Jaffna Hindu College and Kopay Teacher Training College. [1] He was a teacher at Analativu Sathasivam Maha Vidyalayam and Union College, Tellippalai. [1] He is leader of the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi's youth wing. [1]
Gajatheepan contested the 2013 provincial council election as one of the Tamil National Alliance's candidates in Jaffna District and was elected to the Northern Provincial Council. [2] [3] After the election he was appointed to assist the Chief Minister on tourism. [4] He took his oath as provincial councillor in front of Chief Minister C. V. Vigneswaran at Veerasingam Hall on 11 October 2013. [5] [6]

Canagasabapathy Visuvalingam Vigneswaran, PC is a Sri Lankan Tamil lawyer, judge, politician and Member of Parliament. After practising law for more than 15 years, Vigneswaran was a member of the judiciary for 25 years. The 1st Northern Provincial Council is the current meeting of the Northern Provincial Council, with the membership determined by the results of the 2013 provincial council election held on 21 September 2013. The council met for the first time on 25 October 2013. According to the Constitution of Sri Lanka the maximum term of a provincial council is 5 years from the date of its first meeting.
The Government of the Northern Province refers to the provincial government of the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. Under the Sri Lankan constitution the nine provincial governments of the country have power over a variety of matters including agriculture, education, health, housing, local government, planning, road transport and social services. The constitution also gives them powers over police and land but successive central governments have refused to devolve these powers to the provinces.
