Lieutenant General Bakshi Krishan Nath Chhibber (born 10 February 1936) is an Indian military veteran who has also served as Administrator of Chandigarh and Governor of Punjab from 18 September 1994 to 27 November 1999. [1] [2] As member of the 9th Gorkha Rifles he received all the three Peacetime distinguished service awards of Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal. [3]

Personal life

Bakshi Krishan Nath Chhibber was born on 10 February 1936 in the Punjab Province of British India (present day Punjab, Pakistan) into the Chhibber clan of Mohyal Brahmins. His family migrated to present day-India in 1947 post the partition. He was married to Rama Chhibber who died in January 2018 at the age of 78. They have a son and a daughter. [4]

Career

Chhibber graduated from Indian Military Academy, Dehradun in December 1956 and later joined the Gorkha Rifles. He also served as defence advisor to Royal Bhutan Army from August 1964 to December 1967 and was honoured with the Ugen Thogyal Medal by Bhutan for his services in 1967. [5]

Chhibber had also contested the 2009 Indian general election from Amritsar representing Bahujan Samaj Party but lost to Bharatiya Janata Party's cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu. [6]

Dipankar Banerjee is a retired major general of the Indian Army based in India. He is the founding director of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies.

Second Lieutenant Puneet Nath Datt, AC was an officer of the Indian Army's 11 Gorkha Rifles. He was posthumously awarded India's highest peacetime gallantry award, the Ashok Chakra, for bravery displayed in an Indian Army operation. The operation was conducted against terrorists hidden in a three-story building in the Nowshera area of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.

Lieutenant General Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM was the Military Secretary of the Indian Army and assumed office on 15 December 2017. He was the 46th Commander, XV Corps of the Indian Army and was in office from 1 November 2016 to 14 December 2017. He assumed the post from Lt General Satish Dua and was succeeded by Lt General Anil Kumar Bhatt.

Lieutenant General Rajendra Ramrao Nimbhorkar, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM**, VSM is a former officer of the Indian Army who served as the Master General Ordnance (MGO). He assumed office on 9 August 2017 after Lieutenant General Ravi Thodge retired. He was part of one of the strike corp which was responsible for carrying out three strikes inside POK in Surgical Strikes held in 2016 by the Indian Army to clean out all the Pakistani Terrorists Camps. As surgical strikes were carried out very secretly to maintain surprise, so very few people knew of them, one of those involved was Lt. Gen. Nimbhorkar.

Singh retired on 31 January 2016 after nearly four decades in the army, where he was deputy chief of Army Staff, and adjutant general and corps commander of strategic XV Corps that overlooks the Line of Control in Kashmir. He has also worked in border issues and counter-terrorism.

Lieutenant General Lakshman Singh Rawat, PVSM, AVSM was a General Officer in the Indian Army. He last served as the Deputy Chief of the Army Staff, from 1987 to 1988. His son General Bipin Rawat was India's first Chief of the Defence Staff and was the 26th Chief of the Army Staff.
