China competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, from 13 to 29 August 2004. This was the nation's ninth appearance at the Summer Olympics since its debut in 1952. A total of 384 Chinese athletes, 136 men and 248 women, were selected by the Chinese Olympic Committee to compete in 28 sports. Tan Aik Huang is a Malaysian retired badminton player noted for his footwork and patience. He was a former All England Open champion, having won the men's singles title in 1966. Tan was a member of four Malaysian Thomas Cup teams including its world champion team of 1967. He also won numerous major international singles titles during the mid- and late 1960s including the Danish Open, the US Open, the Canadian Open, the Malaysian Open and the Singapore Open. Additionally, Tan holds the distinction of being the first Malaysian shuttler in the Commonwealth Games to win gold medals in two individual events. He is the elder brother of Tan Aik Mong.

Praveen Jordan is an Indonesian badminton player who specialises in doubles. He is a two-time All England Open champion in mixed doubles, winning in 2016 with Debby Susanto and in 2020 with Melati Daeva Oktavianti. He has played for the badminton club PB Djarum since 2008.
Melati Daeva Oktavianti is an Indonesian doubles specialist badminton player affiliated with Djarum club since 2008. She was the 2019 SEA Games gold medalist in the mixed doubles with Praveen Jordan, and 2012 World Junior mixed doubles champion partnered with Edi Subaktiar. Oktavianti and Subaktiar partnership were also a former world junior number 1.
Huang Yaqiong is a Chinese badminton player who specializes in doubles. She is an Olympic gold medalist, three-time World Champion, two-time Asian Games gold medalist, and two-time Asian Champion. She also won a silver medal in the 2020 Summer Olympics. Huang is the current world number 1 in the mixed doubles with Zheng Siwei.
Zheng Siwei is a Chinese badminton player specializing in doubles. He is an Olympic gold medalist, a three-time World Champion and two-time Asian Games gold medalist in the mixed doubles with his current partner Huang Yaqiong. He helped the national team clinch the 2018 Thomas Cup and also 2019 and 2023 Sudirman Cups.
Huang Dongping is a Chinese badminton player. She is the mixed doubles Olympic Champion at the 2020 Summer Olympics, and was three-time mixed doubles Asian Champion, winning in 2018, 2019 and 2024. Huang was ranked first in the mixed doubles with two different partners. Together with Wang Yilyu, she achieved the world no. 1 in April 2018, and with Feng Yanzhe in November 2024.
Wang Yilyu, sometimes also transliterated as Wang Yilu, Wang Yilv or Wang Yilü, is a Chinese badminton player. He is the mixed doubles Olympic Champion at the 2020 Summer Olympics, and was two-time mixed doubles Asian Champion winning in 2018 and 2019. Together with Huang Dongping, he reached a career high of world number 1 in the mixed doubles on 12 April 2018.
Arisa Igarashi is a Japanese badminton player. She won bronze in the mixed team at the Asian Junior Championships in 2013 and 2014, and competed at the 2014 World Junior Championships, winning two bronzes in the mixed doubles and team event.

The mixed doubles badminton tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics took place from 27 July to 2 August at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena in Paris. There were 15 pairs from 13 nations competing. Chinese pair Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping were defending Olympic champions, but Wang had since retired and Huang was eliminated in the quarter-finals with her new partner. Their compatriot, Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong, whom they defeated in the 2020 final, won the gold medal this time, eliminating Huang Dongping along the way.
