Badru Dungu Kateregga (born 4 December 1948), is a Ugandan academic, entrepreneur and academic administrator, who serves as the vice chancellor of Kampala University, a private university that he co-founded.^[1]

Background and education

He was born on 4 December 1948 to Hajat Aisha Nakato Namusoke and the late Hajj Kateregga, in Kabasanda village, in present-day Butambala District, in the Buganda Region of Uganda.^[2]

He attended Kabasanda Primary School, between 1956 until 1964, graduating with a Primary Leaving Certificate. He then transferred to Kabasanda Junior Secondary School, graduating with a Junior Leaving Certificate in 1967. He obtained a High School Diploma in 1969 from Kibuli Secondary School, specializing in Arts subjects.^[1]^[2]

In 1970, he was admitted to Makerere University, Uganda's oldest and largest public university, where he studied History, Religious Studies and Philosophy. He graduated three years later with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He obtained a Master of Arts degree from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, specializing in the History of the Middle East and Islamic studies.^[1]^[2]

In 2010, the Senate of Kampala University awarded him a Doctor of Letters degree.^[2]

Career

Following his graduate studies in the United Kingdom, he returned to Uganda and was appointed as a lecturer in the Department of Religious Studies and Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts at Makerere University.^[2]

Kampala University

In 1999, while still a lecturer at Makerere University, Kateregga, together with other stakeholders founded Kampala University, a multi-campus private university whose main campus is located in Ggaba, on the northern shores of Lake Victoria.^[3] In 2014, he retired from Makerere University to devote his focus on the private university that he had co-founded.^[2]

He is the immediate past Vice Chancellor of Uganda Christian University, a private university that was accredited by the Uganda National Council of Higher Education (UNCHE), in 1997. He was appointed to that position in 2010. Following ten continuous years in that position, he resigned, and handed over to Aaron Mushengyezi, in August 2020.

Hannington Sengendo is a Ugandan academic, urban planner and academic administrator. Currently, he is the vice chancellor of Nkumba University, a private University in Uganda, which was accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education in 1999. He was installed in that position on Friday 21 June 2013.

Ahmad Kaweesa Ssengendo is a Ugandan botanist, academic, and academic administrator. He is the former Rector of the Islamic University in Uganda, a private university that was accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (UNCHE) in 1988. He was appointed to that position in 2004.

Hakim Sendagire is a Ugandan physician, biochemist, academic and medical administrator. Currently he is the Dean at Habib Medical School, College of Health Sciences of the Islamic University in Uganda, a private university, one of the 41 universities in the country, as at February 2015.

Richard Bwogi Masembe Kanyerezi MBChB, MD, FRCP,, was a Ugandan physician and academic. At the time of his death, he was the Chairman of the Board of Kampala Hospital, a private hospital that he co-founded and co-owned in Kampala, Uganda's capital city. He served in the past as Professor of Medicine and Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at Makerere University School of Medicine. He was a consultant physician, specializing in the field of Rheumatology.

Badru Malimbo Kiggundu is a Ugandan civil engineer, academic and consultant, who serves as the chairman of the presidential select committee responsible for the supervision of the successful completion of both Isimba Hydroelectric Power Station and Karuma Hydroelectric Power Station. He was appointed to that position by Yoweri Museveni, the president of Uganda in August 2016. He concurrently serves as the Chairman of the board of directors of National Water and Sewerage Corporation. He was appointed to that position on 20 July 2020, replacing Christopher Ebal, whose contract expired.
